Hi all....I have a chicken that is lethargic, sort of staying to herself and has a weird swollen comb. It is not discolored at all, it just look like a blown-up latex glove....very strange. She is eating and her eyes are also a little "squinty" looking...not exactly swollen, but not exactly normal either. It does not look like a sinus infection or resp. infection. She is not being picked on. I'm not sure what to think. I quarantined her and put her on Terramycin, but I am not sure that it is bacterial. Has anyone seen this before??

Thanks, Leah

I've heard about this, though I have *no* experience, so take my comments lightly, please. I believe that the base of a feather shaft near the comb can become infected, causing fluid retention in the crown and comb. If so, your intervention with terramycin should help. If no improvement in 24 hours, I'd consult a vet. Maybe someone here will jump in with experienced-based advice!
