I have a bantam Cochin hen who is about 8 months old and she just started acting strange. She has been out foraging most of the day but then I noticed she wasn't really hanging out with my other chickens. so I picked her up and was holding her and noticed she had her mouth open. It's not really hot out now and my other chickens aren't panting. Also she has horrible breath! I took her down to her chicken yard area and she drank ok. She was stretching her neck in different ways looking like the exorcist and She was also pecking like crazy at the ground.. I'm thinking to get rocks? Her chest seems extremely swollen and it's really weird because it looks more swollen the right side of her chest. I looked it up and saw that it's her crop but I don't know how it would be more swollen on one side. I read somewhere on here to give Olive oil so I did that.

Any ideas on what's wrong with her? Or what I should do?

Is her crop on the right upper chest hard or puffy like a balloon? Does her breath smell rotten like poop or more sour? If a vet is possible in the morning, I would take her in. The link about crops is pretty good. Give her lots of water, but no food tonight. Keep her in a dog crate tonight to control her intake. She may need to have her crop emptied, but be very careful to follow TwoCrows directions, since it can cause choking to death on crop contents if done wrong or too long.

Update: As of this morning, her crop was still swollen and it feels sort of squishy...her breath no longer smells. One thing I forgot to mention is that all of my birds found some wild bird seed on the ground and ate it up like crazy. I also noticed this morning there was black poop in their coup, which could be from the sun flower seeds?

I gave the flock some yogurt this morning and she only took a few bites. After that I separated her and made a little run out if chicken wire in the backyard close to the house. It is on grass because I don't have a cage yet.

Her mouth isn't gaping anymore and she seems fine other than her full crop. I read that article on crops and bought the ducolax like they said but I don't want to treat her wrong. Also, she goes to bed in a half hour so I think if I do need to treat her it should be in the morning. I was going to let her sleep in the coup as well?
