Swollen Eye Lid (Picture)

I would not treat the rest of the flock unless they are ill. A low dose of anything kills off weaker bugs and leaves the stronger bugs alive thus building up resistance. Treat or don't treat, but don't half-treat.

Let us know how Daisy does on her regimen. I hope she recovers.

Now that you say it like that, i won't treat the rest of the flock. I'm just worried that somebody else may have "it"...but I understand how it works. Me just being a nervous mother hen lol...

I will post pictures as we go, it helps me so that I can see how she's doing too.

I bought the Tylan 50 from tractor supply. It was the only bottle in a fifty mile radius! stuff must be good if they can't keep it in stock, or there's just a lot of crud going around. She will be getting an oral dosage of 1/2 cc (1/2mL) once a day, in the morning, for 5-7 days. Her eyes aren't as bad as some people have told me, and I'm hoping I caught whatever this is earlier enough that I start seeing improvement quickly.

My thoughts are that it will be okay, though, to take my 2 Roosters to the Poultry Swap on Sunday...none of the other birds even remotely look like Daisy. What are your thoughts on that?

I would keep them until you know for certain they aren't sick. Honestly, it wouldn't be the first time a sick bird was dropped at a poultry swap, but... I feel it is unethical to try to offload potentially ill birds.

How much time do you spend at these swaps? I am asking because they are known for being host to a bunch of sick birds. I refuse to even step foot near a swap because of the risk of bringing home something contagious stuck to my shoes. When my old ag store started hosting a poultry swap I stopped using them for my feed.

I've never been to a Swap before. This would be my first one and I'm going to mainly get rid of the Roosters. I have a Buff Orp and a Wellie...the Buff is just TOO BIG for my smaller girls and the Wellie is just too much of a scaredy cat.

I can't bring home more birds, the hubby won't let me lol not that I want to with Daisy so ill looking. I wasn't able to get a good picture of her this morning. She was pretty ticked off that I gave her her medicine and wanted nothing to do with me after that. There doesn't appear to be any change, and hopefully I'll be able to get a picture this afternoon after she chills out a bit.

I can cancel going to the swap, I just don't know what else I'm going to do with my Roosters if I don't go...really don't want to process them, but I guess I'll have to.

Good Morning everyone,

I just wanted to update you on Daisy. This picture is from Sunday, 7-15-2012 @ 2pm. This is right before her 4th dose of Tylan 50. She is doing MUCH better. I've been washing her eye out at least once a day, some days I'm able to wash it out twice. I haven't seen anything wash out of it while we're doing the washing, so I'm still not sure what it could've been that did this.

I contacted our Cornell Extension office and sent him all my previous pictures. He was able to give me a whole LIST of possibilities of what it could be and even his opinion (in percentages!) of what it could be. However, none of them were definitively found to be the cause and may never will be.

I will post a picture this afternoon of her again, I just wanted to thank everyone for their caring and support during this stress.

Thank you again!

Glad to hear that she made a quick recovery. My hen still has a swollen spot near her eye

Not getting worse... but still there nonetheless. What is Tylan? And would it be possible for you to share your list of possiblities? At this point, I think have ruled out bee sting.

Thanks...
