This morning Eddie has a swollen eye. She sorta wheezes a little too, though I don't see any bubbling. I've been searching the forums and I'm seeing this could be Infectious Bronchitus or other Respitory Infection. I saw that I should get Tylan 50. does anybody know her dose?
She is a 9 week old French Black Copper Marans
She is in quarantine in the house and is the only one showing signs.
Should I treat the rest of the flock and if so, with what?
No animals were brought here from other farms recently, although I did get 2 ducklings from TSC on Saturday.
I (nor anybody else in) have not visited other farms, so we could not have brought this in.
all help is much appreciated!

She is a little better today! The redness is gone though the swelling isn't completely gone yet. She's on her second day of Tylan 50. She's still eating and drinking and she sings to me when I sit in front of her carrier. I think she'll pull through.

murano - can you describe the tylan 50 dose? How much? Is this a injectible? Powder in water? I have lost 2 hens and have another with this same issue. I on the other hand, just in the last several months bought grown hens from several different places. I have about 30 or so hens. I also bought our farm with an existing chicken house on it. So I could have brought it in or it could have been in the chicken house. Any suggestions? Help? Thank-you Maybe We can learn together! We are building new chicken houses and pens. I have 80 lil ones coming tomorrow. My daughter is going to brood them. I'll pay, she does the work. Then she will get her first flock and I will get ones I have wanted for a long time.

turney31: It is the injectable Tylan 50. The bantam dose is 1/4cc. The standard dose is 1/2cc. Inject it under the skin in the breast area but not into the muscle. 1 time a day for 3 days.

It's been helping tremendously! Good luck!

I agree looks like a bite or a sting swelling, one of my girls had one swollen eye a while back I just kept a close eye on her because their were no other symptoms and she recovered well, the puffyness and redness went down every day and in about 5 days was gone. I hope its just something simple and she recovers fine.
