Swollen eye-should I find a vet?

My nine-month old Brahma was injured in a raccoon attack two days ago which killed another bird. She has a gouge on one side of her neck which does not look too deep. I am treating that with Vetericyn Plus. Wound looks ok, although she is holding herself a little cockeyed so I think the whole area is probably sore. I have her in house in a dog crate and she is sleeping a lot. Her eye on that side is swollen shut and I am wondering if I should find a vet to look at her? This is my first go round with an injured chicken.

I am sorry about the attack. I don't know a lot about how to treat a chicken when it gets attacked, but I know that there are plenty of other people on here that will be more than happy to help you. I hope that she can make a full recovery. :hugs

Sorry about your chicken. Is there any drainage inside the eye, and have you been able to see if the eye is intact? You can buy Terramycin Eye Ointment from a feed store, or you may use plain Neosporin/Triple Antibiotic Ointment in the eye in a small dab twice a day. If the eye crusts or pus forms, clean the eye with saline before applying the ointment. As always if you have a vet available, it might help to get the best care and medicines that are appropriate.
