What on earth is this? It started out small to where she looked like she got punched in the eye a few days ago. I separated her and continued to spray vetericyn on it. I missed yesterday due to a bunch of appointments I had going on and today it’s like this. I’ve read on coryza which I started thinking maybe but this is super hard, red, and hot. Doesn’t seem like there is anything to push out and get cleaned up. Appetite and drinking is normal. No other symptoms other than this. Her other eye is normal and my other birds are fine as well.

It is a severely infected abscess. It could be from coryza, a respiratory sinus infection, but she could have gotten pecked or got a seed or something stuck in her eye which caused an abscess. Does her eye stink? Is she having any nasal drainage, coughing or other respiratory symptoms? Can you get to a vet or antibiotics? The pus needs to be removed by squeezing, and her eye needs to be flushed with saline eye wash, and an antibiotic eye drop or ointment should be applied 2-3 times a day. terramycin from a feed store or plain Neosporin Triple Antibiotic Ointment can be used, but your vet may have better. An oral antibiotic may also be needed. If she has coryza or E.coli, sulfa antibiotics may be helpful. Here is one:

I haven’t noticed an odor, I tried to see if there was one today. No drainage, no cough, no other symptoms. I have sterile scalpels, saline, vetericyn plus, and microcyn (if that can be used). I am comfortable doing it, I just wanted to get another opinion just incase it was a tumor! Thanks!

If you can get some pus out of it, it probably is not a tumor. Rarely, some have turned out to be tumors, but those seem to make the eye look pushed to the side or back. But I would try antibiotics. Let us know how it turns out.

The only thing I worry about is how hard it is. I’m going to lightly lance it in hopes I get pus out! Thanks for the advice and I will update.

It was all tissue like I suspected :/ we culled her and this is what her liver looked like.

Cancer or some disease that will effect my other birds??

So sorry for your loss. So glad that you did a necropsy. Was the liver very large? The spots do make it look like a viral cancer such as Mareks or lymphoid leukosis virus. LL symptoms usually show up after 4 months of age, and is sometimes called large liver disease. Gee, I am sorry that this turned out to be cancer. As I said earlier, a swollen eye can sometimes turn out to be that. If you should see any other tumors in your birds, I would ship the body off to your state vet lab for a necropsy and specific testing for Mareks or LL. @azygous has leukosis in her flock and manages it. She has numerous posts on BYC.
