Swollen eyelid or something else?

I noticed that my Rhode Island Red had a swollen eyelid. My Rooster was rough housing them yesterday but I'm not sure if he's the culprit. It's very hard to the touch and a little crusty. Does anyone know what it could be and how to treat it? Could I put antibiotic ointment on it? Any ideas or diagnosis would be awesome. Sincerely Ray

Does it feel solid and hard? Does it seem like a scab? I would watch it. If you have plain Neosporin, I would put a tiny bit on with a Qtip.

Yes. It feels pretty solid and hard. It almost feels like I can peel it.

It might be an injury from the rooster, but watch for any more possible scabs, in case of fowl pox. I had a rooster with a hard cyst in the same area, and it did not get bigger. Watch to see if the scab comes off or if it gets larger.

Hi, I'd like to piggyback on this thread and see if anyone can advise one what's going on with my hen's eye. Attached is a view of her normal eye and the swollen eye. None of the other chickens have visible eye issues. I have a small flock of 17 week old chickens and half are roosters. They have been jumping on this one a lot although they are not able to mate yet. She is the largest hen. I'm thinking she may have gotten injured or it could even be a bee sting, but want to make sure it's not something more serious. What do people recommend? Would you let it alone for a while or give treatment immediately? I did flush it with saline and one drop of 30 ppm nano colloidal silver and even diluted that. It's 90 degree whether so that may affect healing time. Thank you.
