Hi everyone,

I noticed tonight that my SLW hen had her left eye partially closed. After inspecting, she has clear bubbles in the corner of her eye and swelling below the eye. I'm not seeing a runny nose or noticing distressed breathing. No foul odor from her face. I have noticed a few of my other hens sneezing though. All 5 of my girls are acting normal and foraging, but I don't want to not do anything and this turn bad. Also, I did notice another one of my birds with noisy breathing while she was running across the yard, but today she sounds fine. I feel like my whole flock may need treatment but I don't know what to give them. Oh, and before anyone says that I need to cull my birds, I do realize that they are likely carriers now of a respiratory disease. My birds are pets and I care for each of them. I just need advice on what to do to treat them.

Thanks

Sorry about your hens’ respiratory disease. It could be signs of MG or mycoplasma gallisepticum. Antibiotics are best obtained from a vet. Tylosin, doxycycline, oxytetracycline, denagard, and enrofloxacin are some that can treat MG. Most of those are online, and LA 200 oxytetracycline may be found in feed stores, and is sometimes given orally. A vet would be best. Here is a good link about MG:
