Swollen face

Also there is a national lab that will send you swabs and supplies to take swabs of your hen’s throat and beak for testing. It is about 80 dollars for 8 different respiratory diseases including MG and coryza. If you can get a good sample, that would be great. Here is a link for the lab to contact for more info:

I just used Zoologix to do a respiratory panel on my duck. I was able to use my own supplies, Q-tips with one end up off, ziplock bagged it and sent it to them. It was 124$ for a full respiratory panel. Once they received it it was about a 4 day turnaround, maybe 5?
I would definitely use them again. Figured I'd add this encase OP wanted to use Zoologics.

If I was to give her turmeric for anti inflammatory, how much would I give her? I have this and another kind I also have these allergy pills, would these work?View attachment 3202815View attachment 3202810
The first one is for an allergic reaction. You can give it to her if you like.
For Turmeric, its not something that you can really overdose used short term. I would give her 1/4tsp of Turmeric with black pepper. I would put it in a capsule or mix it with water in a syringe for easy administration. The black pepper increases the absorption.
Since you already have Turmeric capsules, I wold open one up, dump half of the powder out, or enough that its about 1/4 tsp left, close the capsule and pop it down her beak.

Ok thank you. She seemed hot in the barn so I let her out of the crate into the barn where she laid In a nest in the corner like she always does for a while. (She hasn’t laid an egg in a long time) and then I put her outside in a seperate area. She also seemed a bit pale and shook her head once or twice. I gave her the allergy meds and some nutridrench.

If the head shaking continues I might be concerned about a respitory infection. You do not want to give antibiotics unless it is an infection, even a conventional vet would tell you that. I say that because them it kills the beneficial bacteria and allows an infection to take over, since there is no good bacteria to fight it off.
Another reason for head shacking would be parasites, so check for that too. The pale face could be from heat stress. It's been hot here, and any hens that were struggling with heat these last few days would have a pale face off and on. The color came back once I cooled them down.
If you have a poultry vet near you, they will be able to test and get results quickly. Zoologixs can too, thats about a week turn around time with shipping. Still kind of long.
If she were mine, I would give Olive Leaf Extra, Echinacea tincture, and calendula tincuture for infection. I used it for my hen with a prolapse. She didn't already have an infection, but it did keep her from developing one. At the very least these herbs will help prevent infection, and boost her immune system. They certainly wont hurt.

Sounds great thank you!

so the swelling it getting no better, the wattle on the other side of her face is very swollen now and it seems slighlty puffy around the eye that was fine. She still is occasionally moving her head weird. I have her in a crate in the barn. I have her benedryl and the two natural supplements. Nothing seems to help. I also put some colloidal silver in her water and gave her some natural vitamin c that I and many friends give to all sorts of animals. It’s all natural. Mango, the hen is a feisty girl and was NOT happy when I went to give her a capsule. I also tried to give her some nutridrench and that didn’t go over well although I got some in her. I’m at a loss. I don’t have much extra money right now so vetting is sort of hard to do. I have some extra amoxicillin left over that I could give her or should I get something different? Thank you

Sorry I’m adding a million posts but I forgot to add… can cats and chickens get the same sickness? My cat seems to be getting badly sick and breathing funky and hacking weird and acting odd. The hen who is also sick lives to eat the cat food and my mom will give some to her regularly. Could they get the same thing? And don’t worry the cat will be taken to the vet asap.

Any bugs or imbedded ticks on her face, in her ears, etc.?
She has an abrasion/wound on her right side near her beak. Can you tell if that's from another bird picking at her or?
For the swelling to worsen even after a dose of benedryl, then it's likely not due to a reaction from a sting.

Still hard to know what's causing the swelling. If it doesn't improve, then consider giving and antibiotic like Tylan.

I agree that no improvement likely means no sting. :hmm
I would keep with the Turneric, making a golden paste will increase the absorption. This article has a recipe for dogs- https://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/healing-with-turmeric-golden-paste-for-dogs/
