My young hen has a super swollen foot. I noticed the other birds were keeping her from the warm coop, so when I first spotted this after a cold evening I thought it was frostbite. But, it never turned black and is still very swollen. She’s favoring it and seems to be painful for her. She’s still eating, but has lost a lot of weight. I’m anxious to get her to feeling better. Please help!

If you could just repost those photos and select "full size" instead of the thumbnail size, we would be able to see more detail. How cold was it when you found her outside? How long was she out? Could she have gotten into a water spill on that foot? That could have caused frostbite. How long ago was this?

How does the foot pad look? Is there a scab or swelling or hot to the touch. She might have injured her foot or sprained it. I would consider placing her in a dog crate with her own food and water. Force her to rest it for a while, and give her some chopped eggs, tuna, or meat for extra protein. Try giving her some poultry vitamins in her water, or crush a 1/2 of a vitamin B complex tablet daily to help her appetite.
