I’m not sure if it’s coryza, but the rooster I just brought home was quieter than normal and had mucus like he was sick. At first, I thought he just had a weak immune system or was adjusting. I let them out for a bit and he seemed okay, eating grass and moving around. I didn’t think much of it until two of my hens suddenly got swollen heads out of nowhere. That’s when I realized something was definitely wrong.

Now I’m pretty sure it’s the rooster who brought something in, and the hens caught it. I’ve quarantined the three of them together. I know that’s not ideal, but I’d rather let them stay together even if they die, at least they’re not alone. I’m planning to cull them either way.

One of my hens has started sneezing not the usual soft sneezes chickens sometimes do, but deep, rough sneezes that don’t sound normal at all. I haven’t seen any mucus or discoloration in their feet, so I don’t think it’s avian flu, but maybe they’re in the early stages I don’t know.

Not so many eggs lately.

If anyone has seen something like this before, or has dealt with coryza or Mycoplasma in their flock, let me know. I’m open to advice, but at this point I’m thinking culling might be the safest option to protect the rest of my birds. Either way they seem fine but I know chickens dont show signa of it im worry they are carrying bacteria if they recover they will infect the news chickens or the weakest. Also they sneeze and just some of them dont got theyre head swollen.

(edit: it was 7 of my gals are sick from mine not the chickens I brought)

How long ago did you add the rooster to the flock? Have you added other birds recently, or have you ever had any respiratory disease before this? Can you check to see if any have a bad odor from the beak or thick yellow secretions? Picture are always helpful. It can take only 2 days for something like coryza to spread from one to another. MG may take a few more days. MG does not have the bad odor that coryza has. How many chickens are in your flock? If they have all been exposed, they may all be carriers from now on. MG can be treated with cleaning the eyes and applying Terramycin or plain Neosporin ointment to affected eyes. You can also give the Tylosin in their water 1 tsp per gallon got 5 days.

Coryza, can by treated with Tylosin, but sulfa antibiotics are better. I would cull birds with coryza, but that is up to you. Sometimes it is hard to know what you have without testing a couple or having your state vet do a necropsy if you put one down. Treating with antibiotics will not cure them forever or make them not carriers, but may treat symptoms, and get along okay. I would close your flock, and do not sell or rehome any birds. Here is a place to get Tylosin:

sorry for being late this is how they look the others just look normal but they sneeze. Not many of my hens let me take picture but i took this one.

That looks like the typical swelling of a sinus infection from MG or coryza. Is there any bad odor from the face? There may be pus that needs to come out for antibiotics to help. Here are some graphic cideos of removing pus from the sinus cavity:

right now ive been checking on them but they only have a swollen face? Some just seem natural. I don’t think ive smell something bad when I cam closer to the rooster that was sick’ since he was probably the reason he got my gals looking bad lately
