Hi,
I have a 22 week old black cooper maran hen who seems to have injured her leg. It is swollen and I cannot tell if it is also slightly crooked/ broken or just the swelling. And there is a slight amount of blood but no visible bones or major cut. She doesn’t look to have bumblefoot or mites and it is above her actual foot. Thankfully she is still able to get around somewhat just limping pretty badly. I did not see her slip or take a fall but as of now that’s my only assumption. I have her quarantined with food and water. Is there anything else I can do for her besides hope she heals on her own?

An xray by a vet would be needed to rule out a fracture. That would probably cost $100-200. You could try to pad it, and apply a splint, with vet wrap, but don’t get it too tight. Can you keep her with her flock, but inside a wire dog crate with food and water to force resting the leg? Depending on where the injury is, here is a video of splinting:

You can also give half of a baby aspirin. I think you can technically give a full pill which is 80mg. When my hens have injuries I usually do 40mg every other day. It can help with pain and swelling

Thank you everyone! I have put the splint on her and will be adding in some aspirin. She seems to be doing okay now and hopefully in the next few weeks will be feeling a lot better.
