Hi I'm having this issue with one duck, it's my first set of birds and I think their feed was too high in protein? I noticed pretty late because he can still scoot around the pen but just cannot stand. He's been on niacin for 2 days, is there anything else I can do to strengthen his legs? His little webbed feet are bowing!4x4 for 20 Pekins I am thinking is pretty tight. This little one and all the others need help ASAP best way to give it to them is with Durvet liquid b complex TSC carries it these that have swelling and can’t walk need to be given separately so they get a full dose each are you familiar with oral med for poultry how to give it? They will need half mil over a special treat like meal worms or peas or diced tomatoes but something that is tasty so they get full dose. View attachment 2092227
I've had him about a month but the birds at tractor supply seemed pretty aged when I got them like maybe 2 or 3 weeks already. He seems like he is growing fine besides his legs compared to the other ducks I purchased with him. Thanks so much for replying ❤I doubt it’s protein. Most likely a b3 niacin deficiency go to TSC and get the Durvet liquid B Complex and start giving that to your duckling. How old is your duck @Courtw231 ?
That is not enough, that is the cat/dog dose, bird dose is 125 mg/kg. I have had this prescribed several times and this is what I was told to use. It's also what all other vets suggest. We are getting amoxicillin and dosing at 20mg / kg weight as per a local vet.
Other than being picked on by what I think is a rooster the other ducks are doing very well, I separated them from that guy. I had them on the wrong feed at first I know it was 24% chicken started but they've been on all flock starter for 2-3 weeks. I did notice his beaks holes are clogged. But if I drip water on his beaks he will dunk his head in and clean them out. They are pekins. What breed is this duck? And are all having problems? What feed are you using?
Yes but it doesnt seem motivated to do it on it's own unless we start doing it first.Do they have something deep enough to clean out their nares anytime they want? This is very important.
