1) What type of bird , age and weight:
Either golden comet or isa brown, 11 months old, female

2) What is the behavior, exactly: s
he has thick mucus in mouth, swollen (eye completely shut) on right side. There was dried blood around her eye but it has been cleaned. She can walk and stretch her wings, but she moves slowly and remains hunched over. Does not eat or drink independently, we have been syringe feeding her water.

3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms:
24-48 hours - she went missing 48 hours ago and showed up again with the above symptoms 24 hours ago.

4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms:
None, but we quarantined her today due to bullying behavior.

5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma:
Yes - dried blood around her eye when she returned last night but no other injuries.

6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation:
None known

7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all:
We have been syringe feeding her water and electrolytes ( alternating). Offered her leafy greens, chicken feed, nothing seems to entice her.

8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny?:
Normal but small, most likely because she is not eating

9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?:
Cleaned eye area with water, Alternating water and electrolytes via syringe, Vetericyn ophthalmic ointment

10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?

We plan on treating her at home.

11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it.
We will post one when we can take one.

12) Describe the housing/bedding in use:

Outdoor coop in yard, TSC big green coop with pine shaving bedding inside.Chickens are allowed to free range during the day and are closed in at night. She is now quarantined in a smaller cage with shavings, water, sav a chick electrolytes, and food.

I have a chicken with those symptoms too. It is MG and Mareks.

I’ve been researching Marek’s as well as Coryza but the blood around her eye was making me lean toward an injury. If she got injured, could shock cause the mucus buildup? I hate to be hoping for an injury, but I can help an injury... Marek’s and Coryza don’t have treatment, correct?

It sounds to me like she could have been pecked in the eye or hurt while she was missing. A swollen eye could also be from a respiratory disease, such as MG, or other. The blood could be from pecking either as the main reason for the swelling, or because she is acting sick.

Can you open her eye to see if the eye is intact, if there are any bubbles, dirt, or pus in the eye. Is she gasping, coughing, wheezing, or rattling when she breathes?

I would clean her eye with saline and apply some plain Neosporin ointment twice a day. Can you post any pictures of how she stands and one of her eye?

Can you post some photos?

Gone missing for 48hours and returning with those symptoms I would check her over really well for other injuries. Look for ripped out feathers and bruising of the skin.
Her not eating/drinking concerning - do what you can to get her hydrated.
Hopefully the mucous inside the beak is due to dehydration.
Keep us posted.
