My cockerel, Charlie, has recently been limping but very lightly (it was barely noticeable). And I saw that he has a swollen toe, it’s a bit hard to the touch and is quite large. I have no idea what it is.
I’ve also noticed that the tips of his comb have gone very dark recently, almost black. So I put some vitamins in the chickens water to see if he was lacking. Not much has changed since I have them to him. He’s such a lovely cockerel and is very friendly so I don’t want to get rid of him any time soon!

Does anyone know what this could be?

What does the bottom of the foot look like?

Where are you located in the world?
I’m in the uk, at the moment it’s extremely windy so I think it’s a bit of frostbite. I will get a photo of his foot tomorrow, but it’s wide and flat. Like a little stone on his toe but it’s skin.
It’s become flat from him walking on it.

Since there's not a "scab" that can be removed and the skin is more raised. I would give him soakings in diluted Hibiclens, Betadine or you can use Epsom salts.
Dry the feet really well, then apply triple antibiotic ointment. Wrap the foot or feet if both are effected. Keep him on clean dry bedding and change the wrappings daily. You definitely want to check daily to make sure the feet are not getting worse if wrapping them.

Thank you, yesterday I clean his worse foot but now his other foot has got the same thing. I cleaned and rubbed with hibiscrub, then dried and sprayed his foot with alamycin and wrapped it. This is the day after, I think it’s getting worse so I’ve cleaned it again thoroughly and will do with the second foot. Should I wrap them or do you think it will make it worse?
