I don't know how to circle on the pic but you can see kind of a brown scab looking thing in the center, you want to cut just outside of that. When you soak her foot, the scab should soften up a lot and with a good sharp scalpel/knife you should be able to slide it in the bump with little effort. I know it is nerve wracking at first but you can do it!

Update: Just performed the surgery and it went perfect! It was way easier than I thought it would be. Took less than 5 minutes! I'm going to post some pictures for anyone else that may need to do this. Warning, some are graphic if you are squeamish!

My surgical area. I used betadine prior to any incision, a scalpel, cotton balls, nitrile gloves, alcohol to sanitize everything, paper towels as a staging surface and to dab blood, vetericyn vf to flush the wound, gauze and vetwrap to bandage. I was going to put neosporin on but I forgot :/

Here is the kernal. I was just trying to lift the skin a bit and it popped right out. Yuck.

The kernal after it was removed. I forgot to get a picture of the toe after it was removed but it wasn't much to see.

Here is the scab with the kernal.

All bandaged up. Not the best job, I cut the vet wrap a bit too thick but I am going to change it tonight. She's already walking around and doesn't seem terribly bothered by it.

Well it wasn't that good. I just checked on her and the bandage is gone :/

Overall you did a great job. Just keep it clean and maybe some Neosporin, not the kind with pain relief to help keep out infection. It is tricky to keep wrap on the foot. Maybe strips a little more narrow will work better.

Thank you! Just re-wrapped it and I think it's much better this time. It's almost bedtime for them so I'm just going to keep her inside until then just in case...
