Well It's my very first time rehoming one of my chickens and I feel awful, I have a very small flock of only 8 chickens and my blue polish has turned out to be yet another rooster(3 of 8) and not a very nice one at that. Sure he is nice to me and the kids but VERY confrontational with the other chickens roos and pulletslots of chest bumping and stare downs with chikens just tying to enjoy there day. To make matters worst my 8 year old son is taking it real hard he is sitting outside holding Mo and crying now for over an hour (as if I don't fee bad enough) we have raised him from a week old.

I know... it's hard!!!
My situation was with my 2 daughters and our 6 little adorable goat kids! They would be out there with them from sun up to sun down... and then... Mommy had to go and rehome them! Just wasn't part of the plan to keep the kids, couldn't afford it! Needless to say... I was the worst mommy in the world.. but just for a bit! THey do love me again!.. and Im sure it'll be the same with your son! ..
Hang in there!

Thanks everyone we are thinking about getting a cochin pullet this week though we were offered her in place of the polish roo.

Oh gosh, I know how you feel and I haven't even done it yet. Out of the three chicks that came from our very first hatch on June 6, two of them are roos. I'm dreading the day when I have to give one or both away.

Hope everything worked out for you! :)

My kids have the same issues with our birds........ (my daughter is attached to a Leghorn, and my son to a Delaware)

I recently had to re-home half of my flock, and the "head Hen" was a Delaware named Dellie (My son named her)......... She was HIS baby.......
I had to break it to him that Dellie had to go, and he was angry, upset, crying, etc............

I first took him out, sat him down, and had him watch Dellie as she ran around pecking the other hen's vents, pulling feathers, and much more............ Then I sat down and asked him what HE thought we should do..... I explained that Dellie was old, and was changing to a mean hen (dont ask)............ I explained she was picking at other hens, hurting them, ripping out feathers, breaking skin, and making them bleed, and that some have died because of her, and that more were going to get hurt in the future...........

After much thinking, he declared to me that he thinks we should find her a new home....... (I agreed, although I did not have it in my heart to tell him that she was going to be sold to someone who was going to COOK her......)
He was happy, and Drama was over..........
I think HE, is MUCH more comfortable with the decision than I am at the moment........... I raised her since she was a Baby...... :(

I do hope it all worked out for you...........
