I am wondering if anyone knows what sort of symptoms a bird would have with cedar exposure. My husband brought home some wood shavings that were labeled "soft wood shavings" because the pine they had there was too powdery. If you read my thread in the disease forum, you can see that I have lost quite a few ducklings and can't figure out the cause of their symptoms. I already changed their bedding and enclosure and am using peat now. Several have recovered, but one more is not going to make it. Anyway, if anyone knows about what happens to birds exposed to cedar, I would appreciate it if you would let me know, so that I can be sure I have solved the problem. Thanks

Have you tried the molasses purge? I used it when my chicken had diazinon poisoning and he survived. I think it was something like 4 tbsp molasses in 1 quart of water.

ah found it:

from MissPrissy

Molasses flush is 1 pint molasses per 5 gallons water given over a period of 8 hours withhold all other food or water.

The break down is -

(1 PINT = 2 CUPS)

2 cups to 5 gallons water

1 cup to 2.5 gallons of water

1/2 cup to 1.25 gallons of water

1/4 cup to 2 quarts water

4 tablespoons to 1 quart water

The molasses acts as a laxative by pulling water into the intestines and flushing it out.

I would mix it by the quart.
