Hello, we’re struggling with a hen that had an antibiotic overload, see thread Hens in the hall. In the morning the poop is ok, almost firm, but during the day it becomes a wet splat. I think everything she eats in the day is going to quickly through the digestive transit system.
She drinks a lot of water as the house is very warm. I’ve tried probiotic yogurt and no effect. Today, hurrah, she laid her first egg after her horrendous attack by neighbours dog. I’ve bought the above and the U.K. equivalent of nutri drench. First, she will not eat the bokashi or the nutri stuff.
She’s happy, talks a lot and is very good tempered. I really want to help her as she’s a fighter!

I'm not fond of yogurt for chickens, the sugar is just not good for a crop suffering from microbiotic imbalance which result in a yeast infection of the crop. You can take a fecal sample to an avian savvy Vet to have tested for various parasites and bacteria including gram stains to see exactly what you are dealing with. Remember, the splatty poop could also be from her water consumption. Her soft diet can cause loose stool. If she is passing undigested food she might have a malabsorption caused by lack of enzymes.

Your best bet is to get a proven product. My favorite is Bene-bac but I don't know if that is available in your area.

What is the problem today?
Is she not eating?

Yes, she’s eating extremely well. The other hen doesn’t get much of a look in and I have to distract her at times so the other one can eat.
Again, first thing this morning nice firmish poop then, an hour later a milky white watery poop with a few green bits in it. She seems very happy, we’ve had a good conversation although I haven’t got a clue what I said!
She’s already eaten some layer pellets but later today I’ll try her with the boiled eggs chopped up, her favourite, some scratch seeds and the bokashi mixed in with a little of the nutri drops. The bokashi is a fermented feed - see description below. I understand it can be used for cattle, horses, poultry and other livestock.

Keep your chickens' digestive systems nice and healthy with this Bokashi. Syn-Vital is a live, probiotic yeast culture especially developed for animal nutrition. It is made from Bran that has been inoculated with naturally active EM Effective micro-organisms and allowed to ferment to produce a sweet smelling, moist mix. Rich in B vitamins and other bio-active metabolites, it can added to your hens' daily feed at a rate of 3%. The friendly microbes will keep their tummies healthy and their natural defences will get a boost.

Syn-Vital was developed according to animal feed regulations and is registered within the EU.

This above means this is not a complete feed but a treat.
Make sure she is eating more if the complete layer feed and limit this to once or twice a week.

I agree this is a minor addition to the layer feed but I hope it will help to improve the flora in her colon.

I spoke to the vet this morning and she had a long hard think about it. She said her digestive system was so badly disrupted that it will take time for the whole of her colon to recover. The fact she is laying again gives the vet confidence that it’s a time thing.
