Lyra glanced at the sky “actually maybe I would’ve been dinner” she smiled and patted the person on the shoulder “anyway. Thanks”, she looked the human up and down. They certainly seemed human enough, she looked at his hand searching with her eyes for a number at all like the one tattooed onto her hand. She kicked her feet out of the cocoon and fell in a heap at the persons feet, she examined the surroundings from where she lay, grey skies that were getting darker by the minute and snow filled wilderness just waiting to be explored.

But obviously not by her, by some adventurous person who had the guts to risk their lives for humanity and education. Then she saw legs, human legs they seemed, standing beside her. She held her hand up “I suppose I ought to introduce myself, Lyra. I’m Lyra”, she supposed she must have looked strange laying on the snow holding her hand up to the total stranger.
What if he is some axe wielding killer Lyra? You just placed yourself in a very vulnerable position and to be quite frank you would rather take death by a giant spider than by an axe.

NOPE. I would take the axe any day but that’s not the point. The point is if he wanted me dead why would he cut me out of the cocoon?

Use your head Lyra. He cut you out so he can kill you.

The internal argument was rather amusing, she had to admit. Her and her head were really argumentative, particularly with each other. The chill started to set in when it hit her she was laying in the snow. “We should probably move aye?” She suggested.

(That’s a reminder that I should be keeping track of the time changes XD Right now it should be Early Afternoon all throughout the game world. I’ll give posts when it should be evening, night, etc. But you can keep the darkening skies for an incoming snowstorm.)

“Whoa. I’m sorry, you can’t just leave me out here in the middle of the forest to die! Look at least help me find this other human person Evan and then you can go” she said “please. We don’t even have to talk just um accompany me because I’m clumsy and knowing me I’m going to wind up dead before I get five feet away from here.”

She frowned and realised just how pathetic she sounded. “On second thoughts maybe I will just find Evan by myself” she said “oh well. See ya around human like creature”.

and off she set through the snow back the way she came, or at least, the way she thought she came. She had no idea how to find Evan and the small violent child, but she did know that if she didn’t find them soon then chances were that the spider would come back and maybe the spider would have company. She shuddered even at the thought.
(Remember that the biomes shuffle, so she probably won't be able to get back to him. XD)

"Follow me, if you want. I don't care." Fabian said, never turning back to look at her, continuing on their own path.

Human-like creature? Fabian looked themselves up and down with furrowed brows, before stopping and looking back at Lyra. "Just watch out for the ice lake with the giant squid. And the massive spider. And the weather, wolves..."

You'd have to be crazy to go back there, alone. Fabian shook their head again. But, she's not my problem.

They paused for an extra second, maybe letting their conscience get the better of them for a moment, before letting out a long breath.

Maybe they should help her. They weren't really getting anywhere with their current plan.

(Yep. Thanks I was totally confused as to what time it was so I figured it would be getting late lol)

Lyra paused “giant squid, wolves?” She instinctively shivered “wait that spider?!” She wrapped her arms tightly around herself.
She glanced nervously at the sky, it was getting colder and something told her that it wasn’t because it was night time, “do you think....this cloud is because it’s getting dark?” She asked looking anxiously at the sky again.
Lyra considered her options, she could a) set off in search of Evan but probably end up being another animals meal or she could b) stay here and follow this newcomer.

Either way she could become somethings dinner but there is supposed to be safety in numbers, right? She looked at the other person who seemed human enough, “just to be clear, you’re not going to whip out a sharp stick and attack me are you?” She asked. Her eyes searched the ground for any form of weapon he would use on her.

Leita looked at his hand, then the crab, then back at his hand, before standing up and brushing the sand off herself.
She loosely pulled her shirt on, back over the blue swimsuit, then swung the bag back across her chest.

Normally, she'd be happy to see another person, but he gave off suspicious vibes, especially with his smirk. "I think you should tell me your name first."

The man laughed, retracting his hand and placing it on the claw of his crab. "I am Onuris, and I rule these lands."

Leita wanted to laugh, maybe ask him if he thought he was some kind of King, but the towering crab was still stood behind him, a constant threatening presence. "I'm Leita."

"Aha," he smiled at her, "what a befitting name for such a beauty."

Leita just stared at him, clearly disinterested in his simping, "Where are we?"

"In the middle of the desert, of course." Onuris replied. He didn't give her time to reply as he climbed back onto his crab's back, outstretching his arm to her. "Come, let us move out of the sun's light."

Leita didn't trust him, despite his seemingly charismatic demeanour, but she knew how dangerous it would be to stay in the burning sun.

She held her hand out, grasping his, and climbing up the patient crustacean. "If you try anything, I swear..."

"You need not worry," Onuris replied, pulling her up. He gave Tam, his crab, a couple of pats, signalling to him that he could begin to move again. "I won't harm you."

Tam crept through the sands, the gold charms and chains creating a pleasant tinkling as they went. The throne, carefully strapped to his back, had a tall backrest that blocked a fair amount of sun, continuing the relieving shade from earlier.

They headed towards a large pyramid, matching the colour of the sand, slowly coming into view with each step.

Leita, despite not fully trusting Onuris, felt calmed by the shade and the idea of safety from the sun.
As the pyramid came fully into sight, Leita leaned forward on the crab, gasping at the sight before her.

At the base of the pyramid were stables built into the rock, each holding a creature, managed by its accompanying rider. Some rode giant beetles, others snakes and lizards, and some riding crabs much smaller, and less regal, than Tam. The riders themselves wore dark, wrap shirts, cream harem trousers, and various headscarves. Some were draped in gold, others less so, perhaps showing the differing levels of rank.

"Welcome to my Kingdom." Onuris smiled proudly, glancing over at Leita. He slowed Tam as the reached the pyramid, it almost shining in its true glory.

He slid off Tam, handing the reins to one of the wandering riders and extending a hand out for Leita. "Come, there is much to see."

Leita took his hand, following his slide off the crouching crab. She quickly let go, taking a few steps forward and soaking in the sights while Onuris prompted the rider to take Tam back to his stable. "This is amazing."

"Would you like to take a look inside?" Onuris asked rhetorically as he started walking alongside Leita, leading her towards a large, carved doorway, held up by towering pillars.

As they walked thorough, Leita's fingers skimmed the sandstone bricks, carefully tracing their shape. She had never seen anything like this, definitely not up close. It was breathtaking.

"Our Prince has returned," a woman's voice chimed out. Soon after, the woman in question appeared before them, greeting Onuris with a bow. Her face was hidden by a veil, but it was obvious that she was beautiful. Her body, though covered with cloth, was decorated heavily with gold, inferring a high status. "Is there anything I might help you with, Prince Onuris?"

"Please have the servants prepare a meal and attire for our guest." Onuris replied, gently taking her hands. "Thank you, Yamina."

"Oh no, no," Leita called out to Yamina as she, and the women behind her, started to leave. "I don't need attire, I-"
Leita tried to clarify, but the women had turned a corner and dissappeared from sight.

She turned back to Onuris, who had started to leave her behind, prompting a short jog to catch up with him. "I thought you said this was your Kingdom? Wouldn't that mean that you were the King?"

Onuris' charming smile dropped, slowly. "My father is King here- At least, he was." He sighed, leading Leita to a room that resembled a throne room. "He dissappeared many months ago, with little explanation."

"I'm sorry," Leita said softly, taking a few steps closer to him. She knew how it felt to lose a parent, and sympathised with the pain he must've felt.

Onuris glanced at the golden throne, sitting proudly on the raised, sandstone ground. "When I take a wife, I will become the rightful ruler, in my father's stead. I will be able to lead my people in a way they deserve."

"So, the woman from earlier..." Leita's thoughts trailed on from her words, trying to figure out how to phrase her question.

"Yamina, and the women accompanying her, are my admirers. Women who have travelled far across the lands, seeking to rule this Kingdom with me." Onuris smiled gently, leading Leita to another of his impressive rooms. "I, however, have already chosen who will be my wife..."

The newest room lead through into another room, the door between them made of hung silk sheets, dyed vibrant colours. Inside, there were what appeared to be maids, sorting out various attire, jewellery, and a few other things that Leita couldn't make out. Beyond it was another silken doorway, whatever was on the other side was hidden from view.

"This leads to the women's baths." Onuris spoke. "You may head through and cleanse yourself of the day's worries. Our maids are here to help you if you need anything, and there will be attire laid out for you. When you are done, the maids will take you through to our dining area, where we will have a feast to celebrate your arrival and my announcement."

"I, uh..." Leita was at a loss for words. "Yeah, sure... But I'd like to keep my current clothes."

"The maids will wash them and return them to you, after we have eaten. So, please consider our attire for a short time." Onuris headed back towards the doorway, brushing the silk to the side. "I must go for now, I hope the baths are to your satisfaction."
He ducked out of the room, leaving Leita confused, forcing her to figure things out on her own.

Fabian picked up their hammer, rolling their eyes. They glanced up at the sky, noting the dark grey clouds overhead, before beginning to wander off. "Keep up."

Their goal was to find somewhere to stick out the cold weather with their new travelling companion, no matter how disagreeable their company would be.

A low rumble echoed from behind the dreary sky, silencing the wildlife further. The sky lit up with blinding white light, scaring some speed into Fabian's steps.
It was shortly followed by snow pouring from the sky, almost drowning them in blizzard-like waves.

Fabian desperately looked around, their squinted eyes looking through the falling snowflakes for some kind of shelter. But, aside from the infrequent flashes of light, it was getting difficult to see beyond a few feet.

They glanced back, checking to see if Lyra was still following them. She was, but Fabian could see she was cold and, like them, struggling through the growing snow blanket that covered the ground.

Their numbed fingers unzipped their jacket, carefully sliding it off, without taking their bag off, and passing it to Lyra. Fabian shouted through the snow and the thunder, "PUT THIS ON."

Lightning struck the ground beside them, the sudden conflicting temperatures only adding to their problems. The heat burned the ground and melted the struck snow, only for it to be replaced in seconds with even more snow.

"WE NEED SHELTER," Fabian yelled, their hand shielding their face from the sharp flakes being blown with force towards their eyes. "ANY IDEAS, KID?"

Lyra quickly followed. She was in a t-shirt, crazy wasn’t it considering it was now snowing and her arms were going red from the cold. She heard a rumble above and flinched, did this person know they needed to get out of the snow fast?! It was rather dangerous to be out in a lightning storm.

She shivered again. The cold was getting to her and the snow clung to her thick eyelashes, it was hardly visible three feet in front. She stuck about a foot behind the person, Lyra didn’t want to risk loosing them in the snow. It was dangerous enough that they were out in the cold but with this lightning? When she had been little her father had taught her the difference between lightning which struck the ground and lightning which covered the sky, this was the dangerous type. The type which hit the ground.

She could only just hear them over the rumble of thunder and the whistle of the wind, they passed her their jacket and gratefully she slipped it on, Lyra couldn’t even open her mouth to get out a thanks, she would have but it felt like her whole body was frozen. Her legs were the only things that appeared to be working, her fingers were stiff and numb and she fumbled with the zipper of the jacket for what felt like hours but was probably a few seconds.

When lightning struck next to them Lyra screamed, the first audible noise she had made since the snow had set in. She sped up, her brown eyes wide and fearful, they had to find shelter. Fast. Just as that thought crossed her mind their companion said “WE NEED SHELTER” yes. Yes we do. I could have pointed that out an hour ago when the first of those black clouds started. “ANY IDEAS, KID?” She bit back her snippy response which would have pointed out she was an adult not a child and that she happened to think they should have started looking an hour ago, but arguing wouldn’t get them ANYWHERE.
“How about those rocks?” She asked pointing at a random clutter of boulders off to the left of the direction they had set off in, she looked at her companion for a yes or a no.

Tem watched on as Aros distracted the ravenous horde of squirrels, intrigued that he was glitching and bugging out like some sort of hologram. No wonder I didn’t pick up any sort of scent from him... However they knew they couldn’t just wait around and sightsee. Once the gig was up, the squirrels would reset their sights on them.

This is totally payback from all those times I chased around the neighborhood squirrels.

Tem almost immediately turned tail and darted off once a second Aros emerged from behind some rocky ridge formation. “Come on!” they called out urgently, taking the lead in their escape. It would have been beneficial for Tem to run upright alongside Aros, but they were keen on losing the squirrels, even if it meant their new ‘buddy’ had to trail behind. Running on all fours allowed Tem to transcend the landscape more freely and navigate through tight areas, all the while with one flip flop on their foot.

That’s when they suddenly halted to a stop, kicking up dirt and debris before almost nearly catapulting themself into the river that carved its way through the woodland. There was no way this river was here before. In fact—there was no way this river could have existed less than a minute ago.

I would have heard it... I would have heard the water...

Tem pinned back their ears and shouted curse words out into the sky as they threw their hands up in sheer displeasure. After their outburst they crouched down along the bank and furiously glared at the flowing crystal clear water in front of them. Their tail started to flick back and forth anxiously “There’s no way I’m getting across this, just leave me for dead.” They renounced in defeat mostly to themself but to Aros as well if he’d managed to catch up. If there wasn’t anything that hated Tem most in the world besides being picked up, was diabolical water.
Like when a comet takes its catastrophically suicidal course by hurtling past the sun, only to lose more of its own material-- The moment Tem took off, Aros was flinging himself after them at sickeningly high speeds, needing no goading or prodding to get on the move.
The moment he left the immediate vicinity of his allusion, rounding a corner in an attempt to keep Tem in his sight, he knew it had shuddered and flickered from existence, meaning that more then likely the mad creatures would begin pouring after them within little to no time-- And that knowledge sent an extra spurt of energy through his legs, making him gain speeds he'd never thought possible of himself until that very moment-- But even that did little to help him close the distance between him and his newfound 'companion'. It was sort of startling, just how fast they were, running on all fours and putting even him to a sad shame-- Their black tail, ears, and hair whipping in the wind, much as his own ravenous hair did.
There was several times they had to vault over logs and branches, causing him to fall even further behind. Ahead, Tem's furiously loud obscenities should have been a warning to him, but after bounding over the latest fallen tree, he found himself scrambling desperately to lose velocity on a seemingly newly formed slope, veering to the side in an attempt to not go body slamming Tem-- Who's own miraculous speed having apparently left them crouching uselessly in front of a riverbank that hadn't previously sounded like it was there before, no lapping or trickling sounds to give them a fair warning.
His attempt at not knocking them into the water was going horribly for him, however, seeing as he had slid directly into a slippery patch of mud, causing him to lose his footing-- And finding himself landing on his knees in the murky water, splashing it up over his waist-- But at the very least not landing anywhere deep.
Aros was back on his feet in hardly a split second, whirling to face Tem, his eyes darting behind them to make sure he couldn't see a slightly concerning brigade of rabid squirrels snapping at their heels.
"What?" He blurted, looking back at them when he finally computed hearing their 'just leave me' comment. "We gotta go, we don't exactly have time for lollygagging." He muttered, shifting from foot to foot as he felt silt filling his boots, but his brows snapped together, before his eyes seemingly dawned with an understanding. "Wait, can you not swim? Crap, uh, maybe there's a crossing? Or you can jump across from one tree branch to another?"

Fabian nodded quickly and grabbed the sleeve of the jacket that Lyra was now wearing, rushing them both through the snow, towards the boulders.
Some of the snow had blown over the boulders ahead, but it was clear that they were covered by a thick, autumnal lychen - possibly indicating water nearby.

Another grumble of thunder was followed by a sharp strike of lightning, hitting the ground beside the pair. It was close enough for them to feel the brief warmth it let off, but not close enough to harm them.

For some reason, it seemed like the lightning was trying to hit them.

The thunder continued to grow louder and the grey clouds above rippled, glowing with the crackles of building light. A strand of lightning launched itself directly towards Fabian and Lyra.

Fabian noted that it was too late to run and pulled Lyra behind themselves, before raising both their hands above their head. They sharply turned their head to face Lyra, to quickly warn her. "STAY DOWN."

Thick, purple slime poured out of Fabian's palms. Instead of going up, towards the lightning, it went outwards, forming a messy shield above them. The edges of it slumped down, dripping slightly, before the cold air froze the drops midway.

The lightning made contact with the slime, causing it to boil and bubble on the surface. The previously frozen edges splattered out, droplets disappearing into the white heaps of snow that laid around them.

The heat started to reach through the shield of gloop, burning Fabian's skin. They yelled angrily, their pain and fear desperately needing a physical outlet.

Fabian tried to force more slime from their palms, to stop their protective layer from collapsing in their hands, but the pink markings had already started glowing across their face, and their nose was dripping with a dark, syrupy blood.

A couple of seconds later, the lightning had retracted into the clouds, grumbling at its own defeat. It seemed like it was planning what to do next, but that fact went unnoticed by the pair.

Fabian's shield cooled quickly, setting solid as it turned to ice. Tiny cracks splintered across its surface, and it burst into billions of small, glittery shards, only to be dragged away by the vicious winds.

They breathed heavily, the blood from their nose dripping off their top lip and onto their sneakers. They were exhausted.

But, they didn't have time to stop and rest, they had to move. They grabbed Lyra's sleeve again, pulling her towards the boulders. The snow there seemed to be much thinner, almost untouched by the storm...

(I know this is all over the place, but I wanted Fabian to use their slime again. Also, they're the same age, which is hilarious to me. 😭🖐️)

Lyra had to run to keep up with them, they were fast and she was actually concerned about him ripping the sleeve of the jacket with the vicious way he was tugging on it. She concentrated on getting to the shelter, that’s all that mattered, get to the shelter and then they’d be safe.

Another lightning bolt sprang out the sky striking the ground where seconds ago she had been running through. It almost seemed as though the thunder was annoyed that it couldn’t hit them, she honestly felt like cussing at the sky but in this place the sky might take it personally. She continued running, her feet were aching, her shoulders were pained from her heavy backpack. When next thing she knew she was being tugged to the ground and slime was creating a shield over the top of her.

Lyra gawked at it, it was like a crystallised purple and her companion was glowing - wait. What?! Her companion, yes the other person in this shield, was quite literally glowing in several places on his face. And he had slime protruding from his hand which appeared to be feeding the dome which protected them when the lightning did hit.

Lyra had never scrambled away from someone quite so fast, she was almost horrified by the slime which came out of them. What were they? She was very tempted to ask but realised there would be time for asking questions later, right now she needed to focus on getting to shelter.

As the lightning withdrew rather reluctantly back to the clouds, she had a second to consider running for her life away from the slime person but that could likely result in death by lightning strike. She’d take her chances in the boulders with the slime person, she stared with horror blatantly scrawled across her face as the blood dripped from their nose.

Next thing they was on their feet and had hold of her jacket dragging her across the snow to the boulders up ahead, she shook them off and sped up until the over took them. “Hurry up” was all she called over her shoulder as she ran.
The snow seemed to be thinner around the boulders and she collapsed as soon as she was into the cave like construction. Lyra stared at the person as they dragged themselves inside the cave. “What are you?” Was all she asked, it was rude. A very rude question but she needed it answered, ASAP.
