WASHINGTON, Feb. 1, 2008 – Despite a challenging recruiting environment, all four branches of the military have met with significant recruiting success in the past year and are on target to continue that success, the services’ recruiting chiefs told a Congressional committee yesterday.

In fiscal 2007, the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps all exceeded their active-duty enlisted recruiting goals, and only the Air Force fell slightly short of its goal on the reserve-component side, the officers in charge of recruitment for the four services said at a hearing of the personnel subcommittee of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

And yet we were so short of warm bodies that they had to extend all tours of duty and most Army and Marine personnel had to rotate back after short terms at their home bases. In addition they had to pull National Guard troops who are supposed to stay here to defend their state. On top of that standards have been lowered to the point where they have known gang members enlisting.

Might want to take that report with a grain of salt. Perhaps they were referring to peacetime recruiting standards.

The worst atrocity of the past century, was Veitnam. Escalated by JFK, further escalated by LBJ who managed to kill 50,000+ and maim 250,000 more. All you left wingers, I want to hear your defense of these two Liberals. Compared to them Bush is a Sunday School Teacher.

Maybe you should look at the date again on the report. The military has it's reason for use of personal, and the very successful army I will remind you had much lower standards during WW1 and WW2. And it turned many lives around. Actually I am betting it turned more gang bangers around than creating trained killers. Everybody should be afforded the opportunity to serve, actually required. Many professionals are out there who entered the army without a HS diploma and ended up college graduates and successful members of society. Under both political parties.

I need to correct a few things before I have aneurysm.

As far as "barely exceeding the death toll from 9/11 in Iraq", oh please. The figures I'm finding show that we lost around 3,000 people that day. Now, the statistics on lives lost in the Iraq war vary quite a bit, depending on where you look and who the report includes. Wikipedia has several listed, the lowest number being 91,059. That number ONLY represents Iraqi civilian deaths. Not military losses, just Iraqi civilians.

But even if we go with that low number, that's still around 88,000 more deaths in Iraq than happened on 9/11. The highest number Wikipedia gives is 1,033,000. That's us and them, and that's roughly... 344 September 11ths.

And I found a report from Friday September 22nd, 2006, that American casualties in the Iraq war officially exceeded the death toll from 9/11.

Now, where did the President get his money from? As it turns out, that's a website that lists information about all the candidates and their funding: http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/summary.php?cid=N00009638 There's Obama's page, but you can also check out other politicians.

Your right no administration has had to deal with it. Maybe they read their memos instead of playing golf. Who knows? When you say we barely beat the death stats from the trade center I assume you are talking about the American boys that have died in Iraq. Of course you haven't taken in to consideration all the legs and arms that aren't attached anymore or the brain damage. Then of course there's all the Iraqi civilians that have been killed because of Bushes war.

We could have best honored the people dead in the Trade Center by going after the people responsible. Sorry, Iraq was a true waste of everything. That's all I'll say because I think the families of the fallen soldiers have suffered enough.

By the way. Have you ever served?

I can tell you did not know much about Sadam Hussain and his 2 sons-- again do the research. I believe there was a documentary on the Hussains. How they tortured there own olympic team.. How the one son was a rapist and a murder of young females..How they experimented with WMD on there on people, again do the research! Just for the record I am a daughter of a WWII, Korean war vet a man who spent his whole life serving this country. I lived threw the vietnam war(to young-closed the draft before I was 18) while I watched my brother in law and cousins serve. My family was stationed in Munich Germany. I got front row seats to the nazi concentration camps want to know more. I was from a time when every man in the family served this country(navy, marines army, airforce) A time when people were proud to be an American and serve their country... P.S. MY "grand mother" worked for Higgens(they built the LST's,Landing Crafts) on the Lake front in New Orleans. In case you do not know what a landing craft is its a boat with wheels that drives up to the shore. Used during war times. Anything else? Oh yeah I also have experience with Military K9's.

No argument here. I've criticized Clinton. I can admit when a dem is wrong. Can you admit when a pub is wrong? Just because LBJ prosecuted a war that wasted a lot of lives needlessly doesn't justify what Bush did.

I have seen the hatred on both sides - mostly politicians and media folks.
As has been stated, there are nutjobs in every facet of life - even on message boards such as this one. Thankfully IMO we haven't seen it go overboard, however.
I don't believe that most REGULAR people are that way, though.

Yeah, anyone might say or do hateful things in the heat of the moment - those who refuse to rethink their position are the ones who you need to worry about.

The point is, the extremists on both sides (the real ones, I mean) are the minority - and those folks at the TEA parties, for the most part, were just wanting to be recognized as Citizens with a right to voice their opinions without being ridiculed for it.
