Tagging chicken question

I recently purchased 28 birds and I want to put identifying bands on them mostly (processing, selling, keeping). Can I just use 3 different colors of zip ties? Do I have to buy actual bands? They would only have the bands on till first week of june when we make the trip to the processor.

i have heard of ppl using zip ties. dont tie too tight, and keep a VERYYY close watch on how tight they get. chicks will outgrow them fast.

Awesome, I'm not planning on tagging them till about May, it's mostly so I can keep track of who goes where. With the roos it's easy, but the hens it is kinda hard.
