watching them it's almost like they get attracted to the affected areas... like it's different and we all know how chickens just peck at things that are different... and I can tell you that chickens are definately attracted to blood. I'm in the yard a lot with bare legs and sometimes I get stuck by a blackberry bush.... if there are any blood spots on my legs they sure peck at them....

My mature flock is Welsummers and golden sex links, they are pretty calm and I think they might be fine with another one... but they are at the limit for space also... we'll see.. it will wait until this weekend to deal with it.
