I'm wondering if there is a link between tail length and sex? I have 20 chicks at the moment, 18 hatched 5/4 the other 2 hatched 5/5, and I am noticing that some have developed bigger tails then others some of the ones I'm guessing are female have longer tail, and at least two of my suspected boys have tiny tails. Any thoughts?

Hens will generally develop their tail feathers right away where the roo's will take a couple of weeks or longer before they start showing tail feathers. But this also depends on the breed. Like an Araucana is a rumpless chicken so neither will develop tail feathers.

The longer tail is generally what I look for and sometimes you can see a slight comb on the males even when they are very young and you have more than one of the same kind. I usually try to guess but by the time they are grown I forget lol
