Tail shredder gene

Hey guys. Im not for sure if this is the right thread but... Here is my 7 month old lavender orpington Bigfoot or Foghorn my dad calls him. Does he have the tail shredder gene or something bad?

Lavender coloring is closely associated with poor feather quality.

Sadly i have read that a lot. Im thinking that is what it is. Is there something i cam feed him to help it look better?

Hes been on 20 and 24 percent his whole life. Im hoping maube after his molt they will look better

Yep.
Once the feathers are 'shredded', only a molt and the subsequent new feathers will 'fix' it.

My cockbirds tail feathers get beat up because my roosts are too close to the wall(12") and they rub against the wall, which is 1/2" Hardware Cloth.
Even covering the HC with something smooth hasn't really helped much.
