Chapter 4

But Lilith was caught. She was placed next to me. The human didn't say anything, just walked out.

It's hard to believe 7 months had passed, and that we were moved outside.
It was hot. Lilith and I were hanging in the coop.
A human threw a short, white flaming stick into the grass of our pen.
Suddenly flames rose up of our coop.
"Get out! Go go go!" I tried to slam open the door. Our hay was catching on fire. It was getting closer and filled the coop with fire.
"Sage?"
"Lilith!"
She had fallen off the perch and the fire had singed some of her wing feathers that allowed her to fly.
"Help!" She was trying to jump. I got down off the perch, risking my life and placing my feet in the heat of the coop.
"Climb on my back!" I yelled.
She made no hedistation.
"Arrgh!" Flames blocked the only exit. My only other choice was to bang open the big side door. Flames grew higher. They rose and rose...
Blackness folded over my vision.
All I heard was...
"Lilith! no!"
"Stupid rooster! I should just let you die!"
Then I was picked up, and slung into the grass on my side, blood oozing from my beak as I felt a part of it break off. Then, I felt Lilith's body thrown by mine.
That was all I remembered.

I love Penny's odd colored eyes, it makes her so pretty.

Chapter 5


I opened my eyes as the world blurred around me, and I saw Lilith's satin blue eyes staring at me, calling my name. Her normally beautiful golden face was now tinted with blood.
"Sage!" She cried.
A sharp pain stabbed through my beak. My legs were numb and I was scared. Scared for Lilith. Scared for my life. I could feel my heart pounding, and the blood running down my face. I slowly could feel my life slipping away.
It hurt to move. I couldn't just lie here.
But my legs were weak and I couldn't get up. I could now hear Lilith's sobs. I didn't want her crying like this. I couldn't die, not now. If I did, she would be alone with the human who broke my heart. I thought he loved us, but was I ever wrong. If I left her alone with the human, who knows what she'd have lying in frint of her.
But I had just lost my home. The place where I had lived for most of my life. To fire. Thanks to the human.
"Racdrops..." I managed.
I held on to my life for all I had worth, then remembered my vow to Lilith.
I'll protect her with every last drop of blood in my body...
My vow rang in my ears and I knew I couldn't break it. I couldn't just lay here and die on her.
"Sage..." Lilith managed, her voice shaken up.
"I'll... be okay..." My voice was barely a whisper. I knew I had no strength left. Was I going to die, here, now?
"Lilith..." I whispered.
"I'm here."
"I can't... break... my vow..." I said.
I didn't hear her next words, for the blood pounding in my ears was too deafening.
Then I saw nothing but darkness and felt nothing but pain.
