Take out of egg carton or not? And a question re: blue chicks.

You appear to misunderstand. It is not anger that causes me to be frank about unproven suggestions, at most it is minor irritation

Not getting paid doesn't mean that one is free to advise novices, without being sometimes asked to demonstrate reliable confirmation of a suggested method. That is how novices, and others, learn. They learn to judge the quality of advice from the responses and exchanges.

My point about any methods is a simple one .......

Don't try to adopt ANY prctises until you have mastered the basics. In the case of hatching in cartons .... 100% hatches can easily be acheived without using them, so why do it when it can upset your incubator?

I'm not angry at anyone here, but some are way too defensive when all they were asked to do was provide sources.

We could always just stop responding with advice, but I'm not sure that would be appreciated, either.

As I said, I don't even use that method so I am not defending that. Simply defending those that are sharing their experiences.

Would love to see your input (on another post) about how to achieve 100% hatches. Is that every time? No variables such as chick just not being strong enough to hatch, etc.? Does it apply to shipped eggs as well? Any fowl or simply chickens? Only eggs which have been candled viable or do you count all eggs that are set beginning at day 1?

Truly, as long as mine are turned when they need to be and temp and humidity are accurate, I do not mess with it beyond that. However, I'm not in it for a business nor to perform any tests or educate anyone. We do it simply for us. So 100% hatches would be fantastic, but if we do not get them (and even the hatchery video on How'd They Do That? posted on another thread says they do not have 100% hatch), it's not a HUGE issue for us, though much less can be disheartening.

I've always gotten good hatches from my own eggs. I don't know what else you want me to relate other than my own experiances with it...if you consider them "my anecdotes" then so be it.

I don't know why it bugs you so much that some of us prefer to hatch in cartons. When someone comes on with a question about it I'll continue to relate my personal experiances with it. Sorry that it irritates you so badly.

It irritates me because it is a myth, unproven, and bad practise that is suggested to newbies as gospel. That is why it irritates me.

Y'all know so much more than the experts, none of whom use this method, or recommend it.

Before you, or anyone else, suggests that people do things like this, you should be able to provide substantive evidence that it works.

So far no one has.

The only time I even talk about hatching in cartons is when someone posts a question about doing it that way. Then I relate my experainces with doing it. I have never come on here preaching that is the only way you can possibly have a successful hatch.

I'm not quite certain what evidence you require. I'm quite certain that nothing I could say or do would ever be enough for you.

I've been hatching for many years. Does that make me an expert, no it doesn't but I've certainly learned a lot by trial and error over those years. If I can give one peice of advice to a new person starting out to help make it easier I will gladly share what I've learned.

Even the "experts" can be wrong. Once upon a time the "experts" said the earth was flat.
