Taking a Chicken for a Walk

I polish bonding by taking a bird away from home where the only thing familiar is me. Most I do not pick up as much as have them fly up to hand on command.
Interesting. I guess i never really had a "special technique" when it comes to training chickens, they just seem to want to do it. I have either gotten lucky with the birds i have trained or, i just have a special bond with them in general. I do know that the people at the poultry auction call me the "chicken whisperer" because of my special bond with chickens.

Some of mine trained for work. The birds must be reliable and good with kids. Soon I will be training professional educators to do the same.

So you are training therapy birds? :)
Educational birds. I use them to demonstrate behaviors. Often in leu of using commercial or ornamental breeds that are held in pens for reference. The trained birds will demonstrate reproductive behavior, communication, and allow close inspection so observers can see parts up close.

Thread below shows a lot of what is involved. Getting ready to take it up a notch with a science center near me.

I am sometimes called chicken man. I try to hide when that happens.

How neat! I would love to see this at science centers.
