Hi,

I have 2-3 week old chicks and would like to take them outside for some fresh air, but here in Northern Utah it is still only in the upper 40s to low 50s during the day. Is this too cold? When is it warm enough for a brief outing?

I would say yes it is still too cold. When my chicks were little and were still under the light I would put them near an open window for some sunshine and some fresh air all the while keeping their heat lamp on them. They have no way to keep their body heat in and at those temperatures you would risk them getting too cold which is never a good thing.

TOO COLD! They need to stay warm till they are fully feathered and can keep thier own body heat.

Thanks! That is what I thought, but just thought I would ask.....I feel so bad for them cooped up in the garage all day

I'll wait a couple more weeks!

I live in south-central Arkansas and I took my chicks out a couple weeks ago when they were about a week old. Thought the temp was plenty warm for them (it is Arkansas after all) but they loved bein' outside and seein' the world. They are so funny to watch when discoverin' new things too. Hope all goes well for your lil ones.
