Every evening about dark I go out to close up pens and put up a dozen or so game pullets that do not want to roost in the bigger pens. On the way out I walk past a bunch of pens where the birds within can be seen perched. Most are sleeping unless I make too much noise while walking by. It got me thinking; why not play a game where people go out and take pictures of their birds sleeping on the roost. I got beat the first time because the ground is too crunchy with a covering of ice over saturated soil.

Lets see he can sneak up on their birds and get good pictures of chickens sleeping on the roost.

As a starter I pulled two of my first night pictures that was not actually underwater. Big deal for me. These two used to roost on the front porch and were not disturbed by my comings and goings.

First in night shot mode.

I would like to try to do this, but I would really be surprised if I could sneak up on the coop. Winter time (tonight single digits F) the coop door is latched and the run is latched, so 2 doors to rattle open. Do most of them sleep through that? Did you use a flash? I've never seen my grown chickens with their heads tucked!

Haha my chickens are always awake when I go in there, no matter the time...I must be pretty loud lol

Wow they really do tuck their heads under their wings. I thought people were joking about that. So cool. I'm like another poster, I'd never get the door to the coop open without them waking up. Thanks for the cool pics. :celebrate

Have taken a couple night roosting pics.
Not all my birds head tuck, sometimes they untuck when I count and lock up after dark sometimes they don't.
These pics show no head tuckers...headlight was pretty bright, not to mention flash.
I took these to show roosting choices.
First pic shows brave bunch of 6wo's using main roost

You are a heavy walker and can't sneak up on anybody I see. Get rid of the army boots.
