New egg arrived today with one of my nesting pair (first time parents) I have 2 other first time parents on eggs that are not going to hatch. Hopefully things will improve on the next clutch of eggs they will have this experience to draw on.

I have 2 squabs that are doing well now after first time parents lost their fist clutch of eggs. I have one solid white squab and another pied pigeon that has white and grey. I will post pictures once the colours are more absolute..

Your new squabs sound lovely colours.. I really like the grey pied colours.

How do you know the eggs under the other pigeons will not hatch?

I am sure you know this already.. but for other people here... I find it a good idea to pair a young first time bird to an older one that has already raised squabs in the past.

However, I have sometimes used a pair of young birds... and not had any real problems... apart from them sometimes getting easily distracted off the nest and neglecting the squabs a bit.

I am sure you know this already.. but for other people here... I find it a good idea to pair a young first time bird to an older one that has already raised squabs in the past. I agree problem with my flock at present they are all first time parents as I got them all this past June as squeakers.

However, I have sometimes used a pair of young birds... and not had any real problems... apart from them sometimes getting easily distracted off the nest and neglecting the squabs a bit. I am not positive if the eggs were fertilized to begin with or if they caught a chill. I will know more when I actually crack them open. Until then I am letting nature take it course and hoping the weather will warm up before they raise their next clutch of eggs. Then there will be one less factor to worry about.

My two oldest squabs for 2016. One is solid white the other is a pied I am hoping they will have good homing ability.

Just disposed of the eggs of 2 pairs of pigeons. I candled them and they were not fertile. Hoping to have some more clutches in about 10 days.

I am not 100% sure but I think I have one male pigeon with two mates. I will have to confirm with band numbers to be absolutely sure.
