In the Brooder
Hi there!
We've had our babies for almost three weeks now. Here they are the first day we brought them home. We brought 18 home. 8 will stay with us and 10 will go to live on the farm of my best friend. She's a real farm girl with 20 or so chickens, cats, dogs, and goats. I'm brooding her babies for her this year, which is super fun for me, but we're growing attached to her banties... good thing we can go and visit.
We live in town and are only allowed 8 hens. So far we have our fingers crossed that ours are all pullets. We have the following chicks: They are two weeks old here.
Hyacinth: our easter egger
Emma our White Crested Polish
Mindy our Rhode Island Red
MayBell our Silver Laced Polish
Puffball and Daisy the Silkies (we'll prob keep one of these)
Imogene our Buff Orpington
Rosie our Silver Laced Wyandotte
Addison our Barred Plymouth Rock.
That's our current flock! I chortle at them, sing them lullabies, snuggle them and watch them for hours. Today when I took Rosie, Imogene, Mindy, and Hyacinth out to play in the sun for a few mins they all huddled under me whenever they were scared. I was able to get Hyacinth to come when called! I'm so excited to finish their coop: either called the Sunny Side or Carbonate Clucks (due to the mountain we live near). Here is a pic of the coop.
Sorry it's so dark, we had worked on it all day and this was just before sunset. I'll share all the coop photos once we are all done, which should be this weekend.
It's nice to meet all of you.
Cheep cheep!
