Ludwig, my Black Langshan cockerel, is 24 weeks old. He's crowing but has not been seen attempting to mate yet. I make a point of moving through him when tending the birds, but not pursuing him, and he readily moves.
This morning I was taking photos of two of the POL pullets up on the roost. Ludwig jumped up right in front of me, putting us at eye level. I wondered at first if this was a protective reaction or a potential threat. Then he sat down and roosted rather than remaining on his feet in an active and ready posture.
I hope that this is a good sign that he does not see me as a threat or, even as an object of much interest beyond the possibility that I might be bringing food.
