So, Friday I decided to go ahead with an "on the whim" order with Cackle Hatchery. I did it all online as I found they still had a couple breeds I wanted to work with yet this year. Hated the idea of waiting until spring.

I ordered a total of 21 chicks from 4 breeds. Saturday I got home to a nice phone message that they would be able to ship my chicks on MONDAY! That's today! And only 1 working day between the day I ordered. WOW

Now I'm sure that it helped that I was asking for mainly straight run and not all pullets, but I'm very pleased at the fast turn around and good communications from the company.

I'm so glad to get some chicks going again after having lost 20 half-growns to a mama coon a couple weeks ago.

Coon is gone and chicks are back!

Good a hear a favorable report about them. I'm sure they appreciated your straight run order. LOL

This year I ordered from Healthy Chicks & More. Next year from Cackle Hatchery. And then the year after that from Meyer. Always Planning

Raccoons are nasty and a bane to poultry!

I ordered from Cackle back in March.

I got 5 RIR Pullets (All turned out to be Pullets)
5 GL Polish (4 out of the 5 were Roos)
5 White Silkies (3 out of the 5 were Roos)

So 7 out of 10 straight run chicks were Roos. Kind of a small sample size though to draw too many conclusions. Let us know what you end up with!!!

Last year I hatched my own chicks. Out of 35 chickens I only had 6 roosters!

Okay. The chicks arrived today. BUT, they only sent 7 of the 21 I ordered. They are quite well looking, though. Two of the 4 breeds I requested weren't available. From the packing slip wording, I'm a bit confused if they will ship those 14 when available or if I need to reorder. *sigh*
