Talk to me of arthritis

FWIW

I am the queen of using virgin organic cold pressed coconut oil. It's a miracle treatment for many things as far as I'm concerned.

I had really bad arthritic problems in my hands, knees and shoulders. The oil taken orally seems to lube the body from the inside out. I could never sneak up on anyone coming up the stairs because each knee cracked with each step. Absolutely no noise now for the last year. Hardly ever need pain/inflammation meds at all anymore. It's all natural and way healthier than meds.

My sister has Crohns also and though the vco has helped some folks control their Crohns the vco it did not control that for her though it has helped with her arthritis. My brother has rheumatoid arthritis and has been taking vco for several months now and has seen improvement as well.

It's worth a shot for the arthritis and you may be pleasantly happy with other issues that may disappear.

Oh and it kills chicken lice and their eggs in a day

I already do Remecaid (an arthritis drug) for the Crohns. It's good stuff.
I have also heard that dairy can be a cause. The sad thing is that I LOVE dairy. Love, love, LOVE it. I would have a very hard time giving it up. Cheese, glorious cheese.

It is a bad feeling. It stinks when our bodies betray us.

to you.

Ah. I was prescribed something for the pain from my doctor but wanted to wait til I saw the specialist. I try to take as little pain meds as I can. I dont want it to stop working too soon ( I am only 24)

I love cheese and milk and yogurt and ice cream and sour cream and everything dairy. It is not easy but it is already worth it to me. Just remember it when the pain gets too bad. Maybe one day you will give it a shot. Even just try to do it for two weeks, if it makes a big enough difference when you are in big pain, you;ll give up the deliciousness fast enough lol.

Awww, thanks Belle! It's not a huge deal. Lots of people deal with a lot worse. It is just annoying when I have things to do and my body won't cooperate. I'm trying to crochet tonight. I want my young zippy body back!

I understand exactly. I hate take the various things my doctor wants to try. Remecaid makes me pretty happy though and I willingly go sit still and let them pump it in. The result for me are dramatic and instant. I go back to being a real person again! It's happy, happy stuff!

I am fortunate that most things I can eat in moderation. I try to stay away from heavily fried foods (sadly, no more KFC). I avoid eating beans more than once a week (also a killer as I love beans). Fruits and veggies I can eat if I plan well. Too much and I pay for it later. I eat a lot of carbs as they cause no problems at all. My dairy is pretty much limited to milk on cereal and cheese. Well, and the occasional ice cream, but I'm trying to mostly give that up. Truthfully it is the cheese that would get me. When I get really bad I don't eat much of anything other than rice and dry cereal so I guess by default I am giving it up. I should try it for real though and see what happens.

Both my parents were diagnosed with Fibro-mialga however you spell that(I havnt been, mostly because I loath doctors/hospitals/money spent), and I was diagnosed with growing pains, dont remember the actual name, when your joints hurt because your growing plates arnt aligned right. I've injured almost every joint at some point in my life, mainly because I'm double jointed/have loose ligaments/am a contortionist (My ligaments and tendons dont hold my joints together properly, so they can very easily become dislocated) So I'm 31 and have rheumatoid arthritis in most of my joints plus the same intense pain that migrates like fibro-mialga sufferers describe.

So over the last 20 years I've been thin, underweight, over weight, very in shape and out of shape. And I work on my feet so its hard to exercise, but i tell you, when I am taking my vitamins and fish oil supplements and was working out every day, I had the least amount of pain. Not at my thinnest, but when the muscles were strongest to support more of the weight off my joints.

And I second the oil supplements helping to lubricate everything.

And I'm not talking about full on aerobics, not that I could even do that, just low impact sustained movement for 30 minutes a day, some days you have to power through, but the benefits seem worth it. Ive been doing good the last two years at keeping up my diet and exercise, but I tell you, I do curse the cold.

And yes, ibuprofen helps me, I can tell no difference between it and aleve despite there claims though.

I use ice on sharp pains, heat on dull aches(artist gloves on my hands when doing fine detail work, they support gently and retain body heat). Good supportive shoes, good night sleep, plenty of water, good attitude, eat well, stay fit, and then there's days I curse the world for my existence, but those days are far fewer when I do right by my body then when I didn't.

OK I can tell you about the Apple Cider Vinegar. I use the Braggs Organic, get it at a health food store or Organic food store, some regular groceries carry it too.

I get joint pain in my fingers, especially when it is cold outside. (I work outside.) I started drinking 1.5 oz in a tall glass of water with a little honey or other sweetener. (If you like a tart beverage it is delicious!) It reduced the pain for me.. Matter of fact any hip joint pain or joint swelling it reduced too... Weight loss, better circulation, higher energy levels... Amazing stuff!

Well I liked it so much I was consuming close to a gallon a month! On a routine blood test my platelets were down to 110. I was thinning my blood too much. Good and bad cholesterol were both very low do to the vinegar.

I felt great, but cut back because of the test results to just one or two glasses full a day. That amount seems to have the health benefits without the side effects..

So if you start to use it watch your platelet level, and if you are on blood thinners for other reasons I would check with the doctor first.

My mother tells me my Grandmother was big on vinegar for treating arthritis.

Best of luck to you.

Strange_Screams; I'm with you on the doctors/hospitals/drugs/money spent. I think as a species that is supposed to be the smartest, we forget to use our common sense sometimes when it comes to healing.

Our bodies were meant to heal. Most of the chronic pains (not all, but most) can be relieved with just changing our diet and the way that we move.

For those of you that have not been able to find relief in anything but pain medication, I highly recommend trying a raw or nearly raw diet. I'm talking about fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and some fermented substances. If you want to get started with some good information, google 'Ann Wigmore'; she was amazing.

As far as movement; start with slow, circular movements for your 'ball' joints. A hoola-hoop can be a really good tool to help you. They cost about $5.00 and are much easier to 'do' these days because they have something in them to take advantage of centrifigal force. Even if you don't use it the traditional way (around your waist) you'll be amazed at the workout your arms can get from rolling it around your wrists. Start with a short amount of time and work up as your muscles get stronger.

Oh my. If I ate raw fruits, veggies and seeds/nuts I would never ever leave my bathroom!

I recently read something about the health benefits of hula hooping. Interesting that you are seconding it. Perhaps I'll go find one!
