I have had my chickens for a few weeks and I plan on entering them in a show at the end of this month. How do I tame them? They are pretty scared of us right now, but they are getting better. We can't hold or pet them yet. They are OEGB, Sebrights, and D'Uccles. The D'Uccles are the tamest and don't go crazy when we open the cage. I sat in a chair for about 10 minute in the door of their cages and all but the male sebright calmed down within about a minute. He really didn't like me sitting there lol.

Thanks

Start bribing them with plain cheerios so they'll like you better.

First off, you're going to want to accustom them to being caged. So house them in individual cages for a while. Then withdraw food for a day (NOT water), and feed them from your hands the next day. They'll be hungry and unable to resist. Very quickly they'll learn to trust you. They may not be lap chicken tame this way, but they'll be tame enough to show. If you want them tamer, spend some one on one time with each bird. Wrap one in a towel, and bring it in, within a week it will be very friendly.
