Tarantula thread!

I don't know what species that is in my area...
They aren't seen often except during their migration around end of September - October, and they are a ground species. Going south in Bent County during that time there will be many all traveling the same direction, going across the road. They are spectacular!!!

Great pictures, btw.....

A few spiders, I used to have many many spiders but have gotten more into birds over the years.

My DH kept a few spiders some time ago. Spiders creep me out, like seriously CREEP me out. My son asked for a pet for his birthday a couple of years ago, and since I figured I would actually doing most of the work, a spider seemed like the perfect low maintenance pet. I found Hairy in a horrible pet shop, living in horrible conditions. I spent $140 on the spider and all of its supplies thinking it would probably die by the end of the week. Even though I severely dislike ALL spiders, I just couldn't leave it there. Hairy has been living with is for a little over 2 years now. We don't bring her (? I think its a her) out of her tank, but my kids get tons of enjoyment watching her spin web, eat bugs and crawl around. She'll have a home here as long as she's alive. I believe she's a Rosehair.

Yeah..i heard that about Daddy Long -Legs... ticked me off too... cause that was the ONE spider that i actually liked, and thought was kinda cute...
Now i gotta kill them.. *sigh*

That was actually proved wrong. They can bite but it is not leathal to a human.

I am not really a big fan of spiders. I was bit by a tatantula once because of someone else's stupidity and have not liked them ever since. I will look at them from a distance lol.

Thats just not true, every tarantula is capable of bitting through your skin as well as most spiders just the really small ones would have a hard time. The whole thing about daddy long legs being the most poisonous spider is bogus there venom couldnt hurt you and they are to small to bite a person anyway, also while they do resemble acari they are true spiders. Also it isnt just the new world species that can throw hairs old world will do it as well.

I think a lot of people here are confusing the harvestman with the daddy long legs.

Harvestman, which is not a spider

I use to have a rosehair, even held her once. But I do have a fear of spiders. Don't know why. When I worked at a pet store I did the ordering of all the animals. I had to put the tarantulas away. Most were not bad, but the baboons were aggressive most the time. Also the Vietnamese tiger birdeaters.

All true spiders and tarantulas are venomous(Poisonous you have to eat, venomous is they have to bite) But the venom varies from species to species. Some its completely harmless unless your allergic, others it can make you rather sick. Just do your research before you buy a spider XD. Most new world spiders aren't as prone to biting because they have their first defense which is kicking their little uricating(SP?) hairs at you which itches and you DON'T want in your eyes.

I have three little slings here right now I absolutely love. I used to be a HUGE arachnophobe. I have a G.rosea(rosie tarantula), B.smithi(Mexican red knee) and B.boehmei(Mexican fireleg). I litterally JUST upgraded them to critter keepers as their big enough for it. Their such awesome spiders. I dont have my SLR anymore so only have older photos of my smithi and rosea when I first got them

My g.rosea when I got her at around a third of an inch
