Taste of the Wild is a really good diet unless your cat has allergies to grains. I found out that my cat was allergic to grains when there was the pet food scare and animals were dying from Melamine in the grains imported from China.
TOTW is grain free. I'd rather it had more meat ingredients in the first few ingredients but since the first ingredient is a meal you know that meat does make up majority of the ingredients:

Chicken meal, peas, sweet potatoes, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), potato protein, roasted venison, smoked salmon, natural flavor, ocean fish meal, methionine, potassium chloride, taurine, choline chloride, dried chicory root, tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries, yucca schidigera extract, dried fermentation products of Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus plantarum, dried Trichoderma longibrachiatum fermentation extract, vitamin E supplement, niacin, manganese proteinate, copper proteinate, zinc sulfate, manganese sulfate, copper sulfate, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), vitamin A supplement, biotin, potassium iodide, calcium pantothenate, riboflavin (vitamin B2), pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, manganous oxide, sodium selenite, vitamin D supplement, folic acid.
Using petfooddirect.com and the largest bag size to get average prices I came out with $1.78/lb for TOTW and $1.89 to $2.09 for the different Natural Balance formulas.
Natural Balance also does not have a meat as the first ingredient and only has 1-2 meat ingredients listed for the whole thing. I always wonder what exactly makes up "natural flavor" whether it's pet foods or for human consumption. Plus I've fed both and my cats quite clearly prefer TOTW. They'll eat the natural balance when they have no other choice, but they caught a lot more mice, birds, and a bat over those 2 months.

B.G.-Before Grain is another good cat food that is surprisingly cost effective for the quality of the food and meat content and even some chain stores like Petland have started carrying it. This is the chicken one which I got $1.88/lb
