Tea Time.... Relax with us and have a cup of hot tea!

Mine don't quite do that - there's a rush for the pop hole as they all try to be the first out. I think they're assuming I have treats because they stop right in front of me and don't go any farther than that. I've stepped on one or two - only damage is to me straining my back trying not to hurt them. My daughter has recently started helping me give them black sunflower seed treats and she's decided she's going to try to pick them all up while she's at it. She even managed to pick up the lone RIR. Amazing. She's 5 - those sunflower seeds are magic. She even got the rooster one day, but I freaked and made her put him down. He won't hurt a soul, but he has long spurs and often flails his legs trying to get down.

They are people oriented ain't they?
I did not let them out to free range yesterday, and today they met me at the run door yelling,"Let us out!" I swear, that is what it sounded like.
Once I opened the door they calmly walked by me like the ladies they are.

'Good morning', 'how are you?' 'nice day', 'yes isn't i?t'.
I think Buff Oprpingtons would enjoy a dainty tea party. I can see them with little cucumber sandwiches and some earl gray.
I agree! Buff Orpingtons are just so nice. I could picture 4 of mine enjoying a tea party, but one of them is just too clumsy. She would put her foot on the sandwich tray just to spill everything and eat from the floor

I have stepped on some chicken feet myself.

They will squat and let me pick them up only when they are laying. One of them goes to great lengths not to let me even touch her. They stopped producing in the dead of winter for 2 weeks. During this time, they didn't let me even touch them.

Isn't it beautiful to see a child feeding and interacting with chickens? I think children and animals interacting in such a positive way is very sweet.

Those pictures are amazing! Tea is such a comfort item. Coffee seems much more utilitarian; tea seems more like hot chocolate. At least to me!

I'm back to my Irish Breakfast - DH bought heavy cream for a cake for my birthday so I get to add the good stuff! Makes it kind of like drinking dessert for breakfast. The cake was good too - some kind of chocolate mousse thing, but not really mousse - just creamy chocolate cake. Then my daughter brought over an angelfood cake with strawberries and cream. I'll be addicted by the time I run out of cake and just have to drink more tea!

I agree completely!!! :)

Can never have too much tea!!

Yup!!!

No matter how hot I am, I find a hot cup of tea refreshes me more that iced tea.
89 degrees today,- and HOTTER than sin in the greenhouses... so I really need a cup.

I like my tea iced especially when I'm having it with fried chicken or barbequed anything. Mmmmmm
Otherwise, hot is great!!! =)

Another amazing picture. Made me feel so sad!

Hmmmm, all these cakes... sounds delicious!!! I want some!

Temps here are still in the upper 40s. I wish I could have a day of 89!!! I too drink hot tea anytime. But love iced tea on a hot day as well. I got some mate tea this weekend and drank it early this morning. How I missed a cup of the real thing. It is strong, but without the after taste of most brands.

Wouldn't it be so nice if one day we could all get together over tea and cakes?

Good night, sweet dreams
We should start working on trying to formulate a plan for that!!! Even if we never actually get to do it, it's nice to talk about. =)

OH! YES! I think we could all meet up at some fancy restaurant... no, a big farm house kitchen- and have a tea sampling!
We could all bring our best kitchen treat. I'd bring the 10 egg pound cake. What would you all bring?
Ah, yes!!!
Let me see. Oh, my girls make the best coffee cake ever, and we could bring any flavor of scones you could think of.

Good morning all!

Are we all working in the garden on this bright, sunny day? I'm going to do just that, now that I had a cup of tea, of course

What kind of chickens and how many do you tea loving people have?

I have 5 buff Orpingtons as my garden helpers. Their turning compost right now as we speak.

Bye for now, enjoy the beautiful day!
I have three gold sex-link hens, three hatchery white Leghorn hens, one WLxGLW roo, 11 chicks from combinations of him and the hens. I hatched one, her name is Little Red (she belongs to my youngest), and she was hatched from a pink egg, so hopefully she'll lay pink eggs. (the rest were hatched by a friend of mine)
I also have a SLWxBO roo; he's a beautiful marigold color and DS has a pullet the same color (she's a New Hampshire mix), so we're going to mate them and see what we come up with.
Three white Cochin chicks; I think they might be LF.
Three black and three barred Bantam Cochin chicks.
My pride and joy is my Bantam Cochin Frizzle hen, who is currently brooding nine of her own eggs (she's been mated by both roos, so we'll see what we get).

Plus, my DS has the NH-mix I mentioned, and a Light Brahma mix pullet.

How do you train your chickens to turn compost? I have to turn the compost for mine when they can't find enough bugs elsewhere in the half-acre yard the range on. =\

I love how when I yell "CHICKENS" they all come running with their heads down, wings out, waddling as fast as they can.

Yeah, me too.

My four-year-old is a wildlife specialist and is always picking up the chickens and such. =\

I can pick up some of them, but none of them let me.

Yes, it is!!! =)

Sorry, been caught up in the outside world. Finally got all the peepers and quackers out of the house and into the brave new world. It's been a little chaotic, not to mention trying to get the garden set up at the same time.

Time for tea!

I feel ya on "chaotic". We've been dealing with spring...predators active after a long, cold winter; viral/bacterial/parasite infections/infestations of different varieties and severities and treatments; three times as many chicks as I had last year plus most of last year's chicks are adult chickens laying/crowing, etc.
Busy, busy, busy.

I agree; time for tea!!!

And then there's the chickens I got 2 years ago, mostly because they were friendly, but also because they might, maybe, if I'm lucky, go broody. Two did last year, they multiplied. I added another nest box about a month ago for a total of 4 - for 13 chickens to share and share alike. And it's worked. Only right now I have 4 broody hens. Two are actually setting. The other two now fluff and squawk when I open the door because they know they're going to get tossed out on their rears again.

....more tea.

OH! Speaking of tea!!! I got my Bergamot and Horehound and Roman Chamomile yesterday!!! I should have tried from seed again, but I got into the gardening spirit late. So....they're going in the garden either tomorrow or Saturday and after a little time to get settled, I'll give a report on how they taste in tea. I'll try each with just water and then adding to an existing tea.

Also have Corsican mint coming. It will have to come in during the winter, but it's incredible stuff. Like drinking an after dinner mint.

My husband brought home some Corsican mint for me. It looks an awful lot like penny royal...
Which is poisonous... Let me do some search on that.
and....

wikipedia says:
Use in the kitchen[edit]

This plant is also used in cuisine, most famously as the flavoring in crème de menthe.[3] It is sometimes said to have a scent similar to pennyroyal.
from you grow girl:

WHA HA! so what i always thought was penny royal was Corsican mint all these years!
yeah, eat away, penny royal is not at all like it.
Well now...I plan on planting plenty of it!
I think it would look great in some fairy gardens!

I have some serious uses for this stuff now!
Thank you searsmom. I would have never of researched it without you.
I would have just assumed that mislabeled plant from years ago was accurate!
