Teacher Writes "Loser" On Students Assignments....

I don't think he was actually picking on her. These kids were the gifted kids. It would be like the basketball coach calling one of the players shorty. It was meant in jest. Clearly he does not see these children as losers; sadly, now he sees that at least one of them has no sense of humor. Apparently her parents don't either.

People are so incredibly thin skinned these days. No one can take a joke anymore. Let's all be humorless drones so everyone can be happy.

I agree we do coddle children more than before - however an adult calling a child loser is not right - it appears to me that this teacher was and srill is a bully -
if a teacher were to call my child loser they would get mama bear after them

wrong on many levels

This is a person who is in charge of students and needs their respect. No coach should ever call a kid shorty and no teacher should ever call a child loser. Kids have enough issues to deal with and they do not need the added crap from someone in an authority position.

Thin skinned? If somebody at my JOB called me a loser I would be making a report to HR. Oh wait, I did that already when they said my foreman was my boyfriend!!!

It is a completely different situation when one is with their friends; and teachers should recognize there are boundries as they are viewed as authority figures and set the example of behavior for the students.

I had a teacher who wrote on a kid's paper that he had better enjoy his job pumping gas since that was all he was going to do.

The kid decked him.

My DS has an art teacher right now who calls him Mr. Bean Head because of a self portrait he drew of himself. He is 9 and it was so precious I made copies on photo paper and gave them to his parents (he is adopted, our natural grandson) for Xmas presents. DS is crushed because of this, because he is sensitive and thinks the teacher is making fun of him. He does it to all the kids, one way or another, but some kids are more sensitive than others and it should not be in the teacher's best interest to do this kind of name calling, however innocent it is. DS now hates art, which he use to love, and its all because of a supposidely "innocent" remark by a teacher.

On the other hand, this loser remark is totally off the wall and the teacher should be fired. Can you imagine how this makes a kid at this age feel?????? OMG, I was so angry when my daughter was telling me about it, I couldn't believe it. I have teachers in my family, and their belief was they were there to nurture and encourage a student, NO matter what kind of student they were academically. I am appalled that this teacher was not brought up at the board meeting the first time, and it put in his permanent record. I hope we can keep updated on this because I want to know what they do to him. Bad thing is, they won't "pass" this on to the next school, and he will just do it all over again.

Even if they were saying it as a joke, knowing that you are the hardest working person there? That is all I am saying.

I tease people all the time- my supervisor works non-stop- I say things like, oh you are such a slacker. She knows that I actually mean the opposite.

Apparently that is what this teacher was doing.

People no longer have the ability to put things into context. It's all simplistic and black and white. Someone makes a joke and suddenly he is a bad guy.

joke or no, nickname or no..........................

now as a parent I can call my kids any name in the book as long as it isn't late for dinner 'cuz my kids know me and know I love them to pieces and would never knock their self esteem down, but any teacher calls my kids a looser needs to make sure their dental insurance is paid and up to date. It'll only happen 1 time.

this reminds me of one of my favorite songs --

5 Minutes Alone

I see you had your mind all made up you group of
Pitiful liars. Before I woke to face the day, your master
Plan transpired. -Something told me- this job had more to
Meet the eye. My song is not believed? My words some-
What deceiving? Now I'm unwhole.

You've waged a war of nerves
But you can't crush the kingdom

Can't be what your idols are. Can't leave the scar.
You cry for compensation. I ask you please just give us...

5 minutes alone

I read your eyes, your mind was made up. You took me for
A fool. You used complexion of my skin for a counter
Rascist tool. -You can't burn me- I've spilled my guts out
In the past. Taken advantage of because you know where

I've come [from]. My past.
You've waged a war of nerves
But you can't crush the kingdom

Can't be what your idols are. Can't leave the scar.
You cry for compensation. I ask you please just give us...

5 minutes alone

The first time would get a response to stop, the second would be reported. I work with a jerk who makes statements like this all the time; if the person it is directed to does not think it is a joke then they can report the incident and the other person has to deal with HR.

Are you going to stand there and tell people who have been subjected to prejudice behaviours to get a thicker skin? It is completely an issue of poor judgement and bad behavior on the teachers part.

These are KIDS. Gifted or not they are 12. NOBODY should be calling them losers, especially TEACHERS.

"You're FIRED!"

BTW, the kid that decked the teacher was supposed to serve a three day suspension until his dad showed up threatening to sue the school. The issue was dropped really fast and the teacher was lucky to keep his job.

So what the child learned that it is okay to hit someone who says something you don't like. Wow.

I feel that alot of kids look up to their teachers... and this guy is such a disappointment to me.
