It has been almost 10 years, but I taught my son to sit down and push down. That worked until he was tall enough to stand then taught him to shoot at the drain hole.
throw 3-4 cherrios in the toilet, tell him to sink them.....
that is how I taught the boys to use the toilet, there were a few messes/misses, but they enjoy the activity and it helps them learn to aim.
Happily there are no messes in a few weeks!
We started out with a kids potty chair sitting down. They have those little splash guards in the front to keep things contained. Once he was comfortable with that, he sat on the big potty for awhile (often with a splash guard) and then moved to standing up. He wasn't tall enough to start out standing up. He did enjoy hitting pieces of toilet paper once he got to that stage. Honestly though, I think he "misses" more often now that he is older than when he was training.... sigh....
getting your boys to sit on the toilet is okay to start with, but don't hinder a boy to do what is natural for him!!! you don't want him turning into a "girlie man' when he grows up!!!! Dad needs to do more "hands" on training... show-em how it's done. sure you'll have your mistakes but better train them while their young... will they make mistakes in the future? sure, train them again, this time start by having them clean up the mess, then they will learn to hit the spot and not miss!!!!
I tried teaching my son sitting down (I got one of those potty seats that go on the toilet and it has a "spray guard" ) But he wasn't really a great potty boy until he decided to stand up and pee. Thats when he started really "making it" to the potty every time. His aim is quite good, he rarely misses. I heard that you can help them learn aim by dropping a cheerio in the toilet when they arer about to "go" and tell them to try to shoot it so they learn aim. I was worried about him then thinking that he could just start dropping things in the toilet and peeing on them, but he never did lol
My son was born Sept. 14, 1967. My daughter was born Sept. 14, 1968. Were it not for daughter's being potty trained quickly, making him look bad, my son would still be peeing his pants.
Standing up. Best way to potty train is let them run naked and tell them to pee outside. I spent a whole summer drinking as much water as I could so I could tinkle with him....which was every 20 minutes with his little walnut-size bladder. Will be doing the same thing this summer....
