Teaching your little babys <3 QUESTIONS

Hey

i need help again...

If you have some chicks, what is the best way to teach them there name?

Take one of the chicks and tell it his/her name and give it a treat every time you say it. When it is reunited with the others say its name again, and see if it comes to you to receive its treat. Repeat the process with all the chicks, so they all know their names.

What has worked good for you?



ALSO Im doing a documentary on chickens not being as dumb as people think and I need some tests to, well, test the chickens XD the tests i need are tests focusing on one of the following...

-Memory
-Problem solving
-Communication
-Categorization
-Math

But other tests are just as great <3

Where is the original thread? I am wondering what treats work well for chicks. I have only tries watermelon and they didn't seem interested.

Have you looked on Youtube yet? I've seen vids of trained chickens that can tell different colours and stuff like that.

None of my chicks know their names but our self black Poland roo is great at problem solving. We have an area we are trying to keep chick free (we are going to build their run there) and everytime we find chicks there we make them go back into their part of the yard. Well, Dino Head has figured out to watch the sliding glass door and windows and then to slip past when we are not looking. He is our Rebel with a cause. Now all he needs is a white tee and a leather jacket.

As for teaching them their names, they'll learn it if you talk to them often and say it. Horses, dogs, cats... never get treats when I say their name, but they all know it. Chicks are harder cos they're all 'Chick' until they can be sexed.

TimeOut, chickens don't control when they poop, so potty training them is not possible (although it would be awesome!).

Have you tried? I've heard of degus being toilet-trained and I've even met a horse who would only poo in one corner of his loose box, never anywhere else, yet you'd have thought you couldn't toilet-train a horse either. I think it'd be easier if I had just the one.
