Late to the thread, but gotta toss out a few that noone mentioned...

-Ghostbusters! (Actually made DS a preschool size proton pack for Halloween this year)

-Avatar

And anyone else remember Event Horizon? That movie seriously bothered me as a kid.
Event Horizon seriously bothered me as an adult.

When I visited Weta studios three years ago, they were working on the Avatar sequels.

Dragon Song and Dragon Singer are still my favourites of those. I cried when Harper Robinton died.
There are several parts in the series I cry at. The first Threadfall on the original colony at Landing when the fire-lizards attempt to protect the settlers and their livestock including a flaming shield over one of the houses where a woman was in labor. When Zaranth bespeaks Ramoth and some of the other dragons to save herself and Golanth from Tubberman’s mentasynth-enhanced felines. When Moreta and Holth disappeared between, leaving Orlith and Leari without their partners. When the first dragon riders appeared in the sky above Fort Hold and Admiral Benden’s description of events. Sallah Telgar’s death on board the Yokohama and her subsequent burial thousands of years later when the Pernese learn of her sacrifice. There’s tons more.
You read 3 books in one weekend!?
Yes? Depending on the length I could read much more. Some books like Game of Thrones or The Wheel of Time are so think and have so many characters I go a little slower. It’s not that I can’t read them quickly, it’s that if I do it too much, I don’t retain enough information and if there’s a break between books (like a new one coming out) I won’t remember who people are.
I can’t even finish one… ever 🤣😭
Because you can’t focus on one thing at a time. You are all over the place.
I used to LOVE reading as a kid but then I stopped when I got older. I’ve tried since but I’m an extremely slow reader and get really frustrated how long it takes 😭 that or I get distracted. Or both. But I really do want to start again cause I used to love it and I have a lot of books I want to read!
Don’t get distracted. You read ok here all day. You just need to put your phone down in airplane mode and pick up the book.
I wish I could read that fast 😭 it takes me hours to barely even get into the book
Because you don’t dedicate yourself to reading it. Lol
And don't start with heavy stuff. No papa Tolkien., No Asimov or Heinlein, etc. Pick something light and fast-paced. David Eddings' Belgariad is a good one. Weis and Hickman's Drangonlance chronicles read pretty fast. Anything Piers Anthony. I'm leaning more fantasty than sf, bucause they tend to be faster reads.
Lord don’t start with Tolkien. I read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy in the third grade and loved them. The last time I tried to read them, I threw down The Return of the King, and said screw it, I’ll just watch the movie. He can be a bit…heavy winded. Eragon and the Inheritance series is much easier to read if you’re into the fantasy genre.

Aww. 7 pages describing the rocks on the side of the road isn't fun anymore? :)

+1 on inheritance.

Lol, no. I’m all for being flowery when you write, but good lord. Moby Dick is one of the only books I ever started and couldn’t finish. Also in the third grade. Although Great Expectations made me want to pluck my own eyes out of my skull.

There have been a lot of good movies listed already, and I've seen most of them because science fiction movies are my favorites! The original Planet of the Apes movies were mentioned, but I liked the trilogy Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the PoA and War for the PoA from 2011-2014 even better because the special effects were so life-like. I will also mention The Sixth Sense. I didn't foresee the twist ending in that movie.

The only sci-fi movie I ever saw that gave me nightmares was The Thing from 1982. I was freaked out by the husky dog from the very beginning, and with its isolated Antarctic setting and growing paranoia among the research workers, the the movie grew even more disturbing. I wouldn't like science fiction movies if they all gave me nightmares!

Yeah probably true :lau  but honestly even when I have put my phone down (which I tried a couple times but admittedly rarely), it still takes a while cause I get stuck having to reread things and that pisses me off 🤣🙈 I never used to do that though as a kid so I think if I read more I would get faster.
