The only sci-fi movie I ever saw that gave me nightmares was The Thing from 1982. I was freaked out by the husky dog from the very beginning, and with its isolated Antarctic setting and growing paranoia among the research workers, the the movie grew even more disturbing. I wouldn't like science fiction movies if they all gave me nightmares!

Any of the kaijyu movies (Godzilla, Mothra, Ultraman, Rhodan, etc.)

Does Jurassic Park count as sci fi? I watch a lot of Star wars and finished Lost in Space a month or two ago.

Thinking about it I have also watched Godzilla movies.

And almost all those movies mentioned. And do read Tolkein, although the movie trilogy is just fantastic!
