OK I think imma need to just log into the thing and look at the system specs from there because I was checking over it before I left and saw rather than the standard processor it normally comes with it, it has an i5 vpro. It puts a monkey wrench into thing (although in a good way). On the annoying side I have to reevaluate my graphics card choice but on the other hand, a presumably newer and better processor means it might run my games at a decent level right out of the box. Specifically I want to run hunter call of the wild which surprisingly doesn't have high requirements at all despite how gorgeous the graphics are

vPro means it has some business features and whatnot. Processor thing should have a string in the system info along the lines of Core i5-2XXXX.

Well I ran into the issue dad ran into. I think it has some sort of power supply issue. How do I know? Aside from looking up the error code, it tripped the breaker. I'll just stick with the old reliable laptop. Come to think of it, I think on both my HP laptops the battery either went bad or deteriorated. The battery on my lenovo is still as good as the day I got it despite being treated about the same

Further adds fuel to why I don't like HP. Whether I will take the time to repair this one is debatable but if not I will be getting a lenovo when I do buy a desktop

That's concerning. You could try and buy a replacement power supply. So long as the wattage matches or exceeds the one on the built in supply, and the one in the computer is the standard normal PC power supply, you should be able to replace it.

I have a 2010 HP and it had a dead PSU. Swapped it for a working one and it just worked (link).

I had a Lenovo ThinkCentre M93p mini PC and it worked well. However, one of the ones we had as a website server went bad and quit working.

I will add on that I have a HP that's around 15 years (it looks like the one in the link but with AMD), and it's been on 24/7 for around 10 months or so. Hoping it'll last at least another couple years or so.

I think for the money and effort imma just keep the HP for parts and look into getting a lenovo especially since I don't have much experience on the hardware side of things (I am a software gal), especially since old lenovo desktops are fairly cheap

I greatly appreciate the help in all of this and will very likely have more questions as I plan where to go from here

For now though, imma play some hunter call of the wild :D

Look local too and see. Maybe there'll be a for parts machine you can use some of the HP parts for. Hard drive is probably still just dandy and will be useful.

Let me know if you do. Glad I could help you.

Have fun!
