Hi everyone!
My sebright has been laying regularly for about 3-4 months, but today she lay the smallest chicken egg I have ever seen.

I am not too concerned just more curious to hear what people think.

Here are a couple of photos of the egg, one of her regular eggs and the lady herself.

Fart or fairy egg....open it up, see what's inside.
Good pics.....yes, a sebright fart egg will be veeeerrry tiny!

Fairy, fart, wind, rooster eggs are usually from a tiny piece of tissue breaking loose from the reproductive tract, or an immature ova(yolk) and the body forms an egg around it. Color can be darker than 'normal' as the pigment coating released has to cover a much smaller area so is thicker. Can happen with any age layer, but more common with new or older layers.

that makes a lot of sense as it is a more creamy shade and she is a new layer!
I’ve promised to wait to open it up so my housemates, my boyfriend and one of our neighbours can see what’s inside, we’re all pretty excited haha

Thanks so much for this information, very helpful and interesting!

Are yolkless eggs safe to eat? I have a red sex link pullet that just started laying(about a month ago) and I'm just wondering if they are safe. The only egg she's ever layed that had a yolk was tiny!

My housemate accidentally opened it up and look at it! So tiny!

I decided not to eat it, or fry it up and gave it to the chickens to eat instead. I would probably at least try to fry it in the future

I would call that an immature yolk...could be from one of your new layers, or just a glitch.
She’s definitely a new layer, she’s only been laying for 2-3 months (five or take), this is the first time she’s lay an ‘abnormal’ egg though.
