tell me about BSL please

No worries. Abbreviations are fine and perfectly acceptable.

My neighbor has a black sex link hen - she is one of her best layers, and I think one of her most beautiful hens!

By the way, I immediately knew what you meant by the abbreviation - most folks here would also know, I think.

I have had over 60 black sexlinks(both ones from hatcheries and ones I have bred) over the years and I can say they are great chickens and deffinitely not prone to getting egg bound.

The most popular combinations of sexlinks all have one main objective and that is feed to egg ratio and they all are great for that. Oh ya the other great thing about them pretty hard to get a roo by mistake ( might be the first main objective.)

Certain ones could be prone to being egg bound but that can not be blamed on the fact that they are BSLs, if you breed an RIR roo to a BR hen, they would not get egg bound any more than any other chicken. BSLs being egg bound would have to be blamed on the stains used.

So what breed are we banning now I'll hide my bullies:D Just kiddin' I have a 3yr old Black Star and we just love her. Layed 4 Eggs last week and byfar the smartest bird in my yard and head hen she even rules the rooster.
