Tell me about your Donkeys!

I had a Donkey named Daisy that i just sold this morning. She was very nice and i used her as a livestock guardian for my sheep. We were having to downsize our pasture space and we werent going to have enough grass for Daisy to eat so we had to sell her.

Oh and she was solid white. Very unique looking

If you have no experience, you need to get all your ducks in a row first. The tips and website already provided are good.

Also, make sure you have a vet lined up and a farrier. Note, if it is a mini-donk, some farriers won't do them - mostly because they are small and its hard on the back and also because hooves need slightly different trimming from horses. Other farriers have full client lists and won't take on new people unless you are boarding where he is already "on staff" so to speak. It's also important to have a good hay source, good fencing, and shelter. As others have said, donks are smart and they will figure out how to open gates, go through/under fences and take advantage of your inexperience. Oh, and they are loud!

Yes, I do have a good set-up to house him and I believe that is why the man had approached me about it. He kept remarking on the type and amount of area was fenced. So, I do believe he wanted him to have a good space to go to. I will have to check on farriers in the area. I have been researching but I believe the best thing to determine if he would have the proper demeanor for a newbie to Donkeys. I will have to go take a look and check him out first and go from there.

Yes my Daisy is very spoiled, my companion said I made her that way, but I said both she and walter came that way

Since I have been in the house more getting ready for xmas Daisy is pouting alot and calling for me over her fence. She heehaws everytime I step out the door. I guess I have spoiled her just a wee bit. But you know it's so hard not to, they have such a loving attitude, daisy was 3 or 4 when I got her and had not been handled at all, walter is about the same age and he was handled just a little bit before he got here.

One day I was looking everywhere for Walter, I think he has back injuries from the past because he doesnt like his spine touched since the weather has gotten cold. I was really getting worried because I couldnt find him. Daisy of course wasnt worried. I stopped, turned around and just about ran poor walter over, he was following me as I was looking for him, not making a sound, guess he was wondering what I was looking for.
