Tell me EVERYTHING I need to know about turkey poults...

Quote:
Turkey poults are cute and addicting and no they do not try to commit suicide but they are very easily chilled if a heat lamp fails or they get wet. Keep them sheltered from wind and chill and for sure do not let them get wet and they will do fine.

I hope you have good luck with your shipped eggs but out of 4 shipments of turkey eggs I have only hatched 2 poults and lost one of them within 2 hours of removing it from the incubator when it apparently flipped over on its back and could not get its head out of the waterer and drowned. if they hatch be sure to fill the waterer trough with marbles or rocks so they can drink but not drown.

I always hatch a couple chicken eggs with my poults. The chicks know what to do when they hatch and the poults watch intently and immitate everything the chicks do. Eating drinking ect. Its makes raising the turkey poults a lot easier in my opinion.

The guy that is hatching for us will be sticking my six eggs in with a ton of chicken eggs, so hopefully they will learn a little from those chicks!

Struttin1: LOVE your SN! I hope we'll have better luck with our eggs, we'll see. I really wouldn't be too disappointed if we only got two or three hatched, and I can keep them alive! We're only planning on keeping ONE, we'll see how that goes!

Turkey poults aren't as hard as people say. You have gotten good advice so far. Keep the brooder clean, fresh water, heat and high protien feed. I also put ASV in the water but I do that with all my chickens and chicks too. Any advice from Sands Poultry is good advice. Good luck poults are so cute.

OH!

I had no idea! I already have some ACV and didn't even know it.

What does this do for the poults and chickens in general?

How much do you put into a gallon of water?

Be careful what kind of ACV you use. It has to be the one with the mother in it (it will say that on the bottle). If it doesn't say anything about "the mother" on the bottle, you don't want to use it.

Not the ingredients - it will be listed on the front of the label, something like:

Apple Cider Vinegar
with...The Mother...

It will depend on your grocery store. When I first went looking for it, it wasn't at my local grocery store and I had to go to a health food store. The regular store had regular ACV but not the one with the Mother. Since then, my local grocery store has expanded their health food section and they do now carry it there.
