We have a cool story. Punch line at the end.
Our parents knew each other before I was born. Dh is 2 years older then me.
When I was under two, my parents sold the house we were living in, (northern MN area) to dhs parents, and because our new house was not ready yet the three of us moved into the basement of the house, while dh and his family moved in upstairs.
We lived this way for about 3 months before we moved out.
Fast forward a few years. Dhs family moves to Alaska when he is about 1o years old I think.
Our family moved a few times, finally settling in Kansas.
So, we all grew up, with the mothers keeping in contact at holidays and such.
In 2002, our mothers started making noises about these two children of theirs that were not married yet.
They jabbered about it off and on for some time, trying to come up with ways to get the two of us together.
In the spring of 2003, I recieved a call form dhs mom, that a camp was looking for a head cook to take over the kitchen, in Alaska.
I jumped on that.
You see, I had worked in a Bible camp setting every summer for about 8 years, and loved doing it.
I worked for the school system, so I had my summer free to do this.
Anyways, I tested the waters, to see if this would work.
Within three days, I had been given the money for a plane ticket, and the promise of monthly support from my little church.
I also resigned at work, and started packing.
Now, dhs mother was still scheming.
I figured would roll with things, and come what may....
He met me at the airport in Anchorage, took me out for a much needed dinner, and then drove me to the camp, which was about 2 hours north.
By the way, the camp is gorgeous!!!!! Very resort like, and I was able to cook there for 3.5 years.
All the food was/is real, and is served family style.
It is a favored place for retreats in Alaska, mainly because of the food service.
During those 3.5 years, our relationship grew into a courtship.
It took time. We were both in our late 20s, and add to that the family pressure, made things weird.
He proposed Thanksgiving of 2005, and we got married a year later.
I left the camp ministry a few months prior to our wedding, and have enjoyed being a stay at home wife ever since.
At this time, we are anticipating being approved for foster care, and eventually adoption, as I have lost 6 little ones during the 1st trimester.
I love my hubby so very much. He was exactly what God knew I needed!
Our favorite joke? We love to tell people that we lived together before we got married.
Its quite funny, especially since everyone we know, knows that we remained pure and saved ourselves for the wedding night.
THe looks on peoples faces are always priceless
